HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the owners of 
4
Aurelio's Pizza in Homewood on the occasion of the company's 
5
50th anniversary on August 20, 2009; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, Aurelio's Pizza was begun by Joseph A. Aurelio 
7
Jr., who, after returning from service in the U.S. Army, 
8
arrived in Homewood in 1959 to live his dream of owning his own 
9
pizzeria; his entrepreneur spirit, hard work ethic, kindness to 
10
the community, and perseverance to create the perfect pizza 
11
enabled him to open the original Aurelio's Pizza at 2045 Ridge 
12
Road in Homewood; and
  
 
13
    WHEREAS, Upon finding great success with his pizzeria, 
14
Joseph Aurelio Jr. expanded the Aurelio's Pizza on Ridge Road 4 
15
times from 1959 to 1975; in 1976, he purchased a 12,000 square 
16
foot warehouse on Harwood Avenue; after a year of construction 
17
and a million-dollar investment, the world's largest pizzeria 
18
was born, featuring 3 levels of seating and a capacity of 
19
nearly 600 in a beautiful all-wood structure; this new location 
20
enabled Aurelio's to become a show piece for the south suburbs; 
21
and

    WHEREAS, Today, the Homewood Aurelio's Pizza is the

flagship of the 43 locations in 6 states and the standard by 
2
which all other Aurelio's locations are measured; the 
3
pizzeria's management, composed of Joseph Aurelio Jr.'s son, 
4
Joe, and daughter, Sue, still stand by Joe's original vision of 
5
serving the highest quality food with friendly service and 
6
affordable prices, all while giving back to the communities 
7
they serve; and

    WHEREAS, Aurelio's Pizza serves as a model of dedicated 
9
community service, integrity, and generosity for the people of 
10
the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
11
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13
congratulate the owners of Aurelio's Pizza in Homewood on the 
14
occasion of the company's 50th anniversary and wish them 
15
continued success and happiness in the future; and be it 
16
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18
presented to Joe and Sue Aurelio as a symbol of our esteem and 
19
respect.
