2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Vivian | ||||||
4 | Sullivan of Chicago, who passed away on November 20, 2009; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Vivian Sullivan was born on August 2, 1929 in | ||||||
6 | Chicago; one of three siblings, she was the oldest daughter | ||||||
7 | born to Tom and Odessa Clark; although she was born and raised | ||||||
8 | in Chicago, Vivian loved to travel; she spent a large part of | ||||||
9 | her life vacationing in some of the world’s most beautiful | ||||||
10 | places, from the exotic shores of the Hawaiian islands to | ||||||
11 | Japan, Thailand, Europe, and the majestic land of Israel; she | ||||||
12 | was determined to see the world; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Vivian attended Wendell Phillips High School; | ||||||
14 | upon graduation, she was employed by Young, Spring & Wire | ||||||
15 | Corporation as an assembly line worker, where she remained a | ||||||
16 | dedicated employee for over 30 years;
and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Vivian met and later married R.T. Sullivan, who | ||||||
18 | preceded her in death; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, She was known for her ability to make the simplest | ||||||
20 | dishes taste like gourmet treats; her peach cobbler and | ||||||
21 | homemade rolls were a family favorite;
and |

1 | WHEREAS, Vivian accepted Christ as her personal savior at | ||||||
2 | an early age; she was a committed member of The House of Prayer | ||||||
3 | Church for over 50 years; she intensified her Christian walk | ||||||
4 | under the leadership of her dearly loved pastor, Prophet L.K. | ||||||
5 | Johnson; she found great joy in teaching Sunday school at the | ||||||
6 | church and would always study diligently to prepare for her | ||||||
7 | classes; as a Mother of her church and a prayer warrior, Vivian | ||||||
8 | was praised for her willingness to always lend a helping hand; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, She was a constant companion at the bedside of the | ||||||
11 | sick and shut in members, making it a priority to visit with | ||||||
12 | and minister to them during their time of illness; her | ||||||
13 | enthusiasm for serving others was evident throughout her life; | ||||||
14 | and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, At the age of 55, she went back to school, | ||||||
16 | received her CNA license, and embarked on a career as a nursing | ||||||
17 | assistant; she further exemplified her passion for service by | ||||||
18 | providing home health care services for those in need; she | ||||||
19 | found great solace in caring for those who could no longer care | ||||||
20 | for themselves; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Her daughter, Katherine, her sister, Eddie B., and | ||||||
22 | her dear companion, Cal Dennis, preceded her in death; and |

1 | WHEREAS, She is survived by her children, Barbara (Louis) | ||||||
2 | Williams, Lynn (Sydney) Coleman, Janice Sullivan, Robert, and | ||||||
3 | (Robin) Sullivan; her brother, Michael Sims; her | ||||||
4 | granddaughter, Tracie Sullivan, who was like a daughter to her; | ||||||
5 | her 10 other grandchildren; her 17 great-grandchildren, her 2 | ||||||
6 | great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, cousins, and | ||||||
7 | friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
9 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
10 | mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Vivian | ||||||
11 | Sullivan; and be it further
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to the family of Vivian Sullivan as a symbol of our | ||||||
14 | sincere sympathy.
