| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Ron | ||||||
| 4 | Ingram of Decatur, who passed away on December 6, 2009; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Ron Ingram was born on June 9th, 1946 in Hastings, | ||||||
| 6 | Michigan; he was the son of Ronald Ingram and Olga Gordon; he | ||||||
| 7 | married Sue Burns on June 8, 1969; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Ron Ingram served as a reporter at the Decatur | ||||||
| 9 | Herald & Review since September of 1969, shortly after | ||||||
| 10 | graduating from Michigan State University; during his career, | ||||||
| 11 | he covered numerous topics, including business, education, the | ||||||
| 12 | police and court system, and politics; he was well known | ||||||
| 13 | throughout journalism circles for his unrivaled knowledge of | ||||||
| 14 | the world of politics, the legal system, and law enforcement | ||||||
| 15 | and was frequently asked about property taxes; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Ron Ingram was an active member of the Boy Scouts; | ||||||
| 17 | he served as a Scoutmaster of Troop 5 for 16 years and helped | ||||||
| 18 | nearly 40 Eagle Scouts graduate; he held many positions in | ||||||
| 19 | Scouting, including Den Leader, Cubmaster, Woodbadge | ||||||
| 20 | Instructor, District Committee member, and Scout Commissioner; | ||||||
| 21 | during his tenure in the Scouts, he collected many accolades | ||||||
| 22 | for his efforts, including the coveted Silver Beaver Award; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Ron Ingram was the recipient of numerous reporting | ||||||
| 2 | honors, including the National Education Writers Association's | ||||||
| 3 | grand prize in 1992 for a series he co-authored called "Lost | ||||||
| 4 | Horizons", which examined the issue of children who quit | ||||||
| 5 | school; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Ron was a member of the First Presbyterian Church | ||||||
| 7 | in Decatur and the History Club of Decatur; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Ron Ingram enjoyed playing bridge and reading; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Ron Ingram was preceded in death by his father; | ||||||
| 10 | his stepfather, Charles Gordon; his son, Mark Ingram; and his | ||||||
| 11 | granddaughter, Cynthia Ingram; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Ron Ingram is survived by his wife, Sue; his sons, | ||||||
| 13 | Ron III (Laura) and Matt; his daughter, Dana (Jason) | ||||||
| 14 | Kretsinger; his brother, Chuck Gordon; his sister, Pam Gordon; | ||||||
| 15 | and his grandchildren, Warren Garver, Logan Tewell, Ashley | ||||||
| 16 | Randolph, Ethan Tewell, Dalton Ingram, Mikhaila Ingram, | ||||||
| 17 | Matthew Ingram, Jr., Carrisa Kretsinger, Maureen Ingram, | ||||||
| 18 | Audrey Ingram, and Daphne Kretsinger; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Ron Ingram will be remembered by all who knew and | ||||||
| 20 | loved him as a fair-minded and diligent reporter and as a | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | loving and devoted husband and father; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 3 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 4 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Ron | ||||||
| 5 | Ingram; and be it further
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to the family of Ron Ingram as an expression of our | ||||||
| 8 | sympathy.
