HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ron Ingram of Decatur, who passed away on December 6, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Ron Ingram was born on June 9th, 1946 in Hastings, Michigan; he was the son of Ronald Ingram and Olga Gordon; he married Sue Burns on June 8, 1969; and

WHEREAS, Ron Ingram served as a reporter at the Decatur Herald & Review since September of 1969, shortly after graduating from Michigan State University; during his career, he covered numerous topics, including business, education, the police and court system, and politics; he was well known throughout journalism circles for his unrivaled knowledge of the world of politics, the legal system, and law enforcement and was frequently asked about property taxes; and

WHEREAS, Ron Ingram was an active member of the Boy Scouts; he served as a Scoutmaster of Troop 5 for 16 years and helped nearly 40 Eagle Scouts graduate; he held many positions in Scouting, including Den Leader, Cubmaster, Woodbadge Instructor, District Committee member, and Scout Commissioner; during his tenure in the Scouts, he collected many accolades for his efforts, including the coveted Silver Beaver Award; and

WHEREAS, Ron Ingram was the recipient of numerous reporting honors, including the National Education Writers Association's grand prize in 1992 for a series he co-authored called "Lost Horizons", which examined the issue of children who quit school; and

WHEREAS, Ron was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Decatur and the History Club of Decatur; and

WHEREAS, Ron Ingram enjoyed playing bridge and reading; and

WHEREAS, Ron Ingram was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Charles Gordon; his son, Mark Ingram; and his granddaughter, Cynthia Ingram; and

WHEREAS, Ron Ingram is survived by his wife, Sue; his sons, Ron III (Laura) and Matt; his daughter, Dana (Jason) Kretsinger; his brother, Chuck Gordon; his sister, Pam Gordon; and his grandchildren, Warren Garver, Logan Tewell, Ashley Randolph, Ethan Tewell, Dalton Ingram, Mikhaila Ingram, Matthew Ingram, Jr., Carrisa Kretsinger, Maureen Ingram, Audrey Ingram, and Daphne Kretsinger; and

WHEREAS, Ron Ingram will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a fair-minded and diligent reporter and as a loving and devoted husband and father; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Ron Ingram; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ron Ingram as an expression of our sympathy.
