| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Architects serve the public health, safety, and | ||||||
| 3 | welfare of the citizenry by designing structures for a broad | ||||||
| 4 | range of human activities and creating environments where | ||||||
| 5 | individuals, groups, and communities may thrive; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is | ||||||
| 7 | guided by duty and honor to serve architects, communities, and | ||||||
| 8 | the public at large; the AIA's members share fundamental | ||||||
| 9 | beliefs of civic engagement and public service; as the voice of | ||||||
| 10 | the architecture profession in Illinois, the AIA seeks to | ||||||
| 11 | achieve better, safer, more beautiful, and sustainable | ||||||
| 12 | communities; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, The AIA has established and sponsored | ||||||
| 14 | Architecture Week each year to celebrate and increase awareness | ||||||
| 15 | of great architecture and its impact around the world; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois boasts some of the world's | ||||||
| 17 | most famous historical and contemporary architectural | ||||||
| 18 | buildings and designed spaces, both rural and urban; the | ||||||
| 19 | State's architectural marvels range from homes to skyscrapers | ||||||
| 20 | and everything in between; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois also boasts the nation's | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | first licensed architects, who became some of the most notable | ||||||
| 2 | and respected architects in American history; famous Illinois | ||||||
| 3 | architects include Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, Daniel | ||||||
| 4 | Burnham, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Buckminster Fuller, | ||||||
| 5 | among many others; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, More than 4,000 architects and architectural | ||||||
| 7 | interns from the State of Illinois have been called upon by the | ||||||
| 8 | AIA to participate in various community activities throughout | ||||||
| 9 | the State during Architecture Week, such as presentations, | ||||||
| 10 | public displays, grade school visits, and civic design forums; | ||||||
| 11 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 14 | recognize and congratulate the members of the American | ||||||
| 15 | Institute of Architects as the organization celebrates | ||||||
| 16 | Architecture Week on April 12-18, 2010 and urge the citizens of | ||||||
| 17 | this State to join the organization by helping to improve our | ||||||
| 18 | communities; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the American Institute of Architects' Illinois | ||||||
| 21 | Chapter as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
