| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death |
3 |
| in both men and women in the United States; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Former smokers and people who have never smoked |
5 |
| comprise the majority of new cases of lung cancer each year; |
6 |
| and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, 70% of new lung cancer cases will be diagnosed at |
8 |
| a late stage, with a 15% 5-year survival rate; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Early lung cancer diagnosis and management |
10 |
| protocols currently exist, but have not been embraced |
11 |
| nation-wide as the standard of care; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Funding for lung cancer research falls far short |
13 |
| of that for other, less fatal diseases; therefore, be it
|
14 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
15 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
16 |
| designate November of 2010 as "Illinois Lung Cancer Awareness |
17 |
| Month" in the State of Illinois in order to raise awareness of |
18 |
| lung cancer and its effects on Illinois residents and their |
19 |
| families; and be it further
