| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Carl R. | ||||||
| 4 | Hansen of Mount Prospect; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Carl Hansen was a graduate of Lane Tech High | ||||||
| 6 | School; he joined the United States Army in 1944, where he rose | ||||||
| 7 | to the rank of first lieutenant and then major while in the | ||||||
| 8 | U.S. Army Reserves; after World War II, he served in Germany, | ||||||
| 9 | where he met his late wife, Christl Loeser; in 1952, he | ||||||
| 10 | returned to the United States; that same year, he married | ||||||
| 11 | Christl in Chicago; in 1954, he earned his MBA from the | ||||||
| 12 | University of Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Carl Hansen had a long and distinguished career in | ||||||
| 14 | market research; during his career, he was employed with | ||||||
| 15 | companies such as Sara Lee; in 1967, he founded "Chicago | ||||||
| 16 | Associates", a company that specialized in marketing, | ||||||
| 17 | management, and real estate; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Carl Hansen served as the 15th District | ||||||
| 19 | commissioner of the Cook County Board of Commissioners from | ||||||
| 20 | 1974 to 2006; he was well known as the sole voice of dissent on | ||||||
| 21 | numerous issues before the Board and was the second-longest | ||||||
| 22 | serving Cook County Board member; he also served as an Elk | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Grove Township committeeman from 1962 to 2002; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, After his retirement, Carl Hansen served as an | ||||||
| 3 | active consultant on various civic movements, including the | ||||||
| 4 | Viking Ship Restoration Committee in Geneva; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, During his years in local politics, Carl Hansen | ||||||
| 6 | was instrumental in bringing the Third District Cook County | ||||||
| 7 | Courthouse to Rolling Meadows; he called for juvenile court | ||||||
| 8 | system reform, the streamlining of Cook County services, the | ||||||
| 9 | preservation of the existing forest preserve acreage, and the | ||||||
| 10 | closure of the wasteful Provident Hospital; he also pushed for | ||||||
| 11 | county hospitals to go after non-receivables collection from | ||||||
| 12 | those who are able to pay and blocked a landfill plan at Poplar | ||||||
| 13 | Creek; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Carl Hansen enjoyed playing chess, tennis, | ||||||
| 15 | skiing, and traveling; he was also extremely patriotic and a | ||||||
| 16 | world history buff, especially when it came to his Danish | ||||||
| 17 | heritage; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Carl Hansen is survived by his son and | ||||||
| 19 | granddaughter; his sister; his nephew and nieces; and his | ||||||
| 20 | half-brother; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||

| 1 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 2 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Carl | ||||||
| 3 | R. Hansen; and be it further
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 5 | presented to the family of Carl Hansen as an expression of our | ||||||
| 6 | sympathy.
