| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor Shirley J. Green for her |
4 |
| many years of dedicated service to her community; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Shirley Green was born on December 23, 1925, in |
6 |
| Belleville; she attended schools in the Belleville area and was |
7 |
| a member of several civic and service organizations; in 1961, |
8 |
| she and her family moved to Matteson; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Shirley Green served as Rich Township Assessor |
10 |
| from 1974 to 1994; she holds the Certified Illinois Assessing |
11 |
| Officer (CIAO) designation; she served as a liaison between the |
12 |
| Cook County Assessor and the Township Assessors offices for 15 |
13 |
| years; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, After her retirement, Shirley Green served as a |
15 |
| consultant and assessment analyst for Cook County Assessor |
16 |
| Thomas Hynes and later for Assessor James Houlihan; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Shirley Green presented seminars on real property |
18 |
| assessment for area high schools, Prairie State College, Kent |
19 |
| Law School, Governors State University, and Harper College; she |
20 |
| also hosted a radio show on WCGO called "Rich Township Serves" |
21 |
| during her tenure as Assessor; and
|

| WHEREAS, Shirley Green served on the Matteson Village Board |
2 |
| for 6 years and served on the Board's Plan Commission and |
3 |
| Economic Development Commission; she also served on the |
4 |
| Illinois Tax Advisory Commission, the Illinois Department of |
5 |
| Revenue Advisory Commission for Recodification of the Property |
6 |
| Tax Act, and the Cook County Committee to Review the Equity of |
7 |
| the Assessment Process in Cook County; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Shirley Green was the first female president of |
9 |
| the Cook County Township Assessors Association; she was a |
10 |
| member of the Township Officials of Cook County, the Illinois |
11 |
| Assessment Institute, the Township Officials of Illinois, and |
12 |
| the Township Officials of Illinois Risk Management |
13 |
| Association; she served as President of the Matteson Station |
14 |
| Townhome Owners Association; she is a charter member of the |
15 |
| Matteson Library Association; she is also a life member of the |
16 |
| Matteson PTA and a member of the Board of Directors of the |
17 |
| Chicago Heights Symphony, the American Cancer Society, the |
18 |
| South Suburban Focus Council, and the Chicago Southland |
19 |
| Alliance; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, In 1993, Rich Township's Senior Center was named |
21 |
| the Shirley J. Green Senior Center in honor of her work in her |
22 |
| community; she was the recipient of an award from the Illinois |
23 |
| Township Assessors Association, as well as the Marshall Thoreau |
|

| Award and a Life Membership from the Township Officials of |
2 |
| Illinois; she also received the Paul Harris Award from the |
3 |
| Matteson Rotary Club, the Athena Award from the Matteson Area |
4 |
| Chamber of Commerce, the Outstanding Citizen Award from the |
5 |
| Chamber of Commerce of the South Suburbs, and a First Person |
6 |
| Profile Tribute from the Chicago Tribune; and |
7 |
| WHEREAS, Shirley Green was married to the late Kenneth H. |
8 |
| Green; she is the mother of 2 sons, Michael and Steven (Robin), |
9 |
| and the grandmother of 5 grandchildren, Kevin, Dana, Matthew, |
10 |
| Amy, and Laura Green; therefore, be it
|
11 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
12 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
13 |
| honor Shirley J. Green for her many years of dedicated service |
14 |
| to her community and wish her continued success and happiness |
15 |
| in the future; and be it further
|
16 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
17 |
| presented to Shirley Green as a symbol of our esteem and |
18 |
| respect.
