2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to honor Nancy Aardema, Executive | ||||||
4 | Director of the Logan Square Neighborhood Association (LSNA) in | ||||||
5 | Chicago, for her twenty years of service to LSNA; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Nancy Aardema, strongly believes that the Logan | ||||||
7 | Square Neighborhood Association's success has been based on | ||||||
8 | building ongoing relationships of personal trust among | ||||||
9 | individuals and organizations; during her years of service, the | ||||||
10 | organization has looked hard for ways to nurture numerous and | ||||||
11 | varied types of new social relationships within the Logan | ||||||
12 | Square neighborhood; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Relationship building is central to all of LSNA's | ||||||
14 | work; the organization strives to maintain Logan Square as a | ||||||
15 | neighborhood that is diverse economically, ethnically, | ||||||
16 | linguistically, and racially; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Nancy Aardema is widely recognized as an expert in | ||||||
18 | her field; since 1989 she has led LSNA to become one of the | ||||||
19 | strongest community organizations in the city, with one of the | ||||||
20 | most extensive parent participation programs for low-income | ||||||
21 | and immigrant families in the country; LSNA has also | ||||||
22 | demonstrated key leadership roles in citywide affordable |

1 | housing campaigns; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, LSNA's education work received recognition from | ||||||
3 | the State of Illinois and the national Grantmakers Concerned | ||||||
4 | with Immigrants and Refugees as a model program for immigrant | ||||||
5 | integration in 2006; LSNA's Education Team won the Ford | ||||||
6 | Foundation's Leadership for a Changing World Award in October | ||||||
7 | 2005; LSNA was presented with the Chicago Community Organizing | ||||||
8 | Award in May 2005; in 2000, LSNA received the | ||||||
9 | highly-competitive James V. Brown IV Award for Excellence in | ||||||
10 | Community Service; and in 1997 LSNA received the Best Community | ||||||
11 | Organization Award; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, In 2002-03, Nancy Aardema was recognized for her | ||||||
13 | work with the awarding of the Chicago Community Trust Community | ||||||
14 | Service Fellowship; she was acknowledged in 1995 as "Best | ||||||
15 | Community Organizer" in the "Best of Chicago" series, presented | ||||||
16 | in Chicago Magazine; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Her dedication and years of service will be | ||||||
18 | celebrated on March 11, 2010 with A Celebration of Leadership; | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
21 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
22 | thank Nancy Aardema for her years of dedication and service to |

1 | the Logan Square Neighborhood Association and the people of the | ||||||
2 | State of Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to Nancy Aardema as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
5 | esteem.
