HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Gary Goforth, head football coach at Benet Academy, on his retirement and success as a football coach and mentor throughout the years; and

WHEREAS, Gary Goforth spent one season at Augustana College as a graduate assistant before joining the Benet coaching staff the next year to help out with the freshmen football team; and

WHEREAS, Gary Goforth quickly moved up the ranks and was involved with the varsity coaching staff for 30 years, the last 22 of which he was head coach, during which time he won 85 games; and

WHEREAS, Gary Goforth led the Redwings to the playoffs six times, with the Redwings making an appearance in the Class 6A quarterfinals in 2003; and

WHEREAS, The Redwings football program produced quality talent under Coach Goforth, such as current Wheaton North head coach Joe Wardynski and former player Dan LeFevour, a storied quarterback at Central Michigan University who's projected to be selected in this year's NFL draft; and

WHEREAS, Coach Goforth remains the school's athletic director, a position he has held for the past 19 years, and continues to teach biology, showing his character as a mentor on the field and in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Coach Goforth has been a role model for young students and players for years and will continue to be one for years to come; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Benet Academy head football coach Gary Goforth on his retirement and success as a coach and mentor; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Gary Goforth as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
