HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The Northwestern University Dance Marathon is one 
3
of the largest entirely student-run philanthropic causes in the 
4
world; and
  
 
5
    WHEREAS, Nearly 12,000 children in Chicago and 1.3 million 
6
children in the United States of America are homeless; and
  
 
7
    WHEREAS, StandUp for Kids, a non-profit organization 
8
devoted to finding homeless and at-risk teens across the nation 
9
and providing them access to shelters and resources to succeed 
10
in life, is Northwestern University Dance Marathon's 2010 
11
primary beneficiary; and
  
 
12
    WHEREAS, Thousands of members of the Northwestern 
13
University and Chicago community will come together to 
14
participate in a 30-hour non-stop dance-a-thon at the 
15
culmination of a year-long quest to raise funds and awareness 
16
for StandUp for Kids and the Evanston Community Foundation on 
17
March 5-7, 2010; and
  
 
18
    WHEREAS, 2010 marks the 36th annual celebration of 
19
Northwestern University Dance Marathon, held in Evanston, and 
20
their commitment to unite Northwestern University and nearby 
21
communities through education and philanthropic fundraising;

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
3
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
4
support the mission and spirit of Northwestern University Dance 
5
Marathon, congratulate the marathon's dancers, supporters, and 
6
beneficiaries, and urge the people of this State to join in 
7
celebrating the pride, potential, and power of Northwestern 
8
University Dance Marathon and StandUp for Kids on the weekend 
9
of March 5-7, 2010.
