HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The Central Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority 
3
is celebrating its 76th Regional Conference, "An Encouraged 
4
Sisterhood Preparing for the Future," March 25-28, 2010, in 
5
Chicago; and
 

6
    WHEREAS, The conference is expected to have over 1,800 
7
attendees; it will attract women in the sorority and their 
8
families from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Wisconsin, 
9
Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and the southeastern 
10
part of Missouri; and
 

11
    WHEREAS, The women of Alpha Kappa Alpha come to the 
12
conference to honor and celebrate the achievements and 
13
accomplishments of other women within the region; and
 
14
    WHEREAS, On March 25 a Welcome to Chicago Reception will be 
15
held to introduce the attendees and their guests to the 
16
"wonders of Sweet Home Chicago"; and
 

17
    WHEREAS, On March 26 a "New Century Leader" awards ceremony 
18
will honor special women who have made a difference in their 
19
local communities and the world by their service projects; 
20
those to be honored are: Robyn Rice-Foster of La Parisianne du 
21
Chocolat, Helen Hammond Redding, Vice President and State

Director for Community Relations for CITI of Illinois, Shawna

Spencer-Kendall, Executive Director of I am You Program and

Resale Boutique, and Joyce Ann Brown, Program Coordinator for

Englewood Food Network; and

    WHEREAS, Events on March 26 will also feature the "AKA 
6
LAFFJAM" a comedy and musical showcase; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
8
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
9
the members of this Body, in recognition of the achievements of 
10
the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the values 
11
for which they strive, congratulate the women of Alpha Kappa 
12
Alpha on their 76th Regional Conference and wish them the best 
13
in all their future endeavors; and be it further
 

14
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15
presented to Pamela Bates Porch, Central Regional Director of 
16
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
