|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dennis Schmidt on |
| 4 |
| the occasion of the conclusion of his 35-year career as Police |
| 5 |
| Chief of the Montgomery Police Department and for his new |
| 6 |
| career as manager of Waubonsee Community College's driver |
| 7 |
| safety program; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt is a native of Aurora; he earned |
| 9 |
| his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Aurora |
| 10 |
| University in May of 1983; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt began his career with the |
| 12 |
| Montgomery Police Department in April of 1974, when he was |
| 13 |
| hired as a patrol officer upon his discharge from the U.S. |
| 14 |
| Army, where he had served as a medic; in 1978, he attained the |
| 15 |
| rank of sergeant; in September of 1981, he was appointed to |
| 16 |
| serve as police chief by the late Village President Stu |
| 17 |
| Johnson; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, During Dennis Schmidt's tenure, the Montgomery |
| 19 |
| Police Department saw a period of steady growth, especially |
| 20 |
| over the past decade; to accommodate the village's growing |
| 21 |
| police department, Mr. Schmidt played a key role in the |
| 22 |
| planning for a new police station on U.S. Route 30 at Griffin |

| Drive; the facility, which was designed and sized to |
| 2 |
| accommodate the village's future population growth, was |
| 3 |
| dedicated in 2005; he has also served admirably as a leader |
| 4 |
| during numerous emergencies in Montgomery, including the |
| 5 |
| floods in the Parkview Estates Subdivision in 1972, 1983, and |
| 6 |
| 1996; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt has been involved with numerous |
| 8 |
| activities and fundraisers, including the Kane County Police |
| 9 |
| Officer of the Year Banquet and Awards Ceremony, the Montgomery |
| 10 |
| Festival, the Kane County 911 Board, and numerous charitable |
| 11 |
| events and church activities; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Following his retirement from the Montgomery |
| 13 |
| Police Department, Dennis Schmidt will serve as manager of the |
| 14 |
| driver safety program at Waubonsee Community College, where his |
| 15 |
| inspired leadership and experience will benefit the many |
| 16 |
| instructors and students under his wing; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt serves as a model of hard work, |
| 18 |
| integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
| 19 |
| Illinois; therefore, be it
|
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 21 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
