| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Adelle J. Swanson |
| 4 |
| on the occasion of her retirement after many years of dedicated |
| 5 |
| service with the Riverdale Public Library District; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson earned her bachelor's degree in |
| 7 |
| English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in |
| 8 |
| 1967 and her Masters in Library Science degree from the |
| 9 |
| University of Illinois in 1968; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson has had a long and distinguished |
| 11 |
| career in libraries throughout the State; she began her career |
| 12 |
| as a student clerk at the Urbana Free Library in 1962; in 1967, |
| 13 |
| she worked as a graduate assistant in the Education and Social |
| 14 |
| Sciences Library at the University of Illinois at |
| 15 |
| Urbana-Champaign; from 1968 to 1974, she served as Head |
| 16 |
| Librarian at the Flossmoor Public Library; in 1974, she became |
| 17 |
| the Administrative Librarian with Riverdale Public Library |
| 18 |
| District in Riverdale, where she remained until her retirement |
| 19 |
| in 2010; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson is a member of many professional |
| 21 |
| organizations, including the American Library Association, the |
| 22 |
| Illinois Library Association, the Joint Advancement of |
|
|
|

| Illinois Libraries, the Library Administrators of Northern |
| 2 |
| Illinois, the South Suburban Library Association, Zone 6, and |
| 3 |
| the Suburban Library System; she is also a member of numerous |
| 4 |
| community organizations, including the Riverdale Chamber of |
| 5 |
| Commerce, the Intergovernmental Group, the Housing Authority |
| 6 |
| and Human Relations Board of Riverdale, Remembering When, the |
| 7 |
| Riverdale Landlords' Association, the Our Savior's (Senior) |
| 8 |
| Apartments Board, the Thornton Township Regional Action |
| 9 |
| Planning Program, the Riverdale Investment Club, the American |
| 10 |
| Cancer Society, United Way, and Business and Professional |
| 11 |
| Women; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson was named the Riverdale Chamber of |
| 13 |
| Commerce Member of the Year in 1982, 1993, and 1997 and |
| 14 |
| Business and Professional Women Woman of the Year in 1980; she |
| 15 |
| was also made a Riverdale Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Member |
| 16 |
| in 2010; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Adelle Swanson serves as a model of hard work, |
| 18 |
| integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
| 19 |
| Illinois; therefore, be it
|
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 21 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 22 |
| congratulate Adelle J. Swanson on the occasion of her |
| 23 |
| retirement and wish her many happy and healthy retirement |
