HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Detective Steven 
4
R. Worsham of the Chicago Police Department on his retirement; 
5
and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, During his early years, he attended St. Brides 
7
Grammar School and graduated from Mt. Carmel, where he excelled 
8
on the swimming and water polo teams; he also spent time 
9
serving as a lifeguard and mate for the Chicago Park District; 
10
and
  
 
11
    WHEREAS, He joined the Chicago Police Department in 1980 as 
12
a patrolman, Star number 2053, and worked in numerous high 
13
crime and high risk areas; he was promoted to Gang 
14
Specialist/Detective, where he executed search warrants, wire 
15
taps, and participated in numerous raids on Chicago's most 
16
violent and notorious street gangs; and
  
 
17
    WHEREAS, In October of 1986, he was shot in the line of 
18
duty while apprehending a criminal; he was subsequently awarded 
19
the Chicago Police Department's "Blue Star" Award; he has also 
20
been awarded a Special Commendation, 11 Department 
21
Commendations, 29 Honorable Mentions, one Unit Meritorious 
22
Performance Award, as well as other awards from the federal

government and the Chicago Police Department; and
  
 
2
    WHEREAS, He is a well known denizen of the Rainbow Beach 
3
Three Wall Handball community and has won several Chicagoland 
4
Metro Handball League Championships, as well as volunteering as 
5
a little league coach and supporter of St. John Fisher; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, While working fulltime as a member of the Chicago 
7
Police Department, Detective Worsham also completed his 
8
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis College, 
9
graduating with honors; and
 
10
    WHEREAS, He is a loyal friend to many, a great family man, 
11
and deserves many accolades for his service to his community; 
12
therefore, be it
  
 
13
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
15
congratulate Steven Worsham as he retires as a Detective with 
16
the Chicago Police Department and wish him all the best in his 
17
future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
18
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19
presented to Chicago Police Department Detective Steven 
20
Worsham as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
