HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the students, 
4
staff, faculty, and alumni of Kaskaskia College as they 
5
celebrate the school's 70th anniversary; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, Centralia Junior College was created in 1940 and 
7
later became Kaskaskia College in 1966 through the passage of 
8
the Community College Act of 1965; and
  
 
9
    WHEREAS, Kaskaskia College holds the distinction of being 
10
the first community college organized under the Community 
11
College Act of 1965; Kaskaskia College District 501 was formed 
12
on July 1, 1966; and
  
 
13
    WHEREAS, The college has grown over the years to over 
14
12,000 students; the college has a main campus west of 
15
Centralia, a branch campus in Vandalia, and educational centers 
16
in Greenville, Nashville, Salem, and Trenton; and
  
 
17
    WHEREAS, Kaskaskia College employs over 400 full-time and 
18
part-time personnel; over the past nine years, the college has 
19
experienced a 62% increase in credit hours, the largest 
20
increase of any higher education institution in Illinois over 
21
that time period; and

    WHEREAS, Over the years Kaskaskia College has provided an 
2
excellent educational opportunity for students to become 
3
better equipped for life; therefore, be it
  
 
4
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6
congratulate everyone involved in the 70th anniversary of 
7
Kaskaskia College and wish them continued success; and be it 
8
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10
presented to James Underwood, President of Kaskaskia College, 
11
as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
