HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Pastor Jonathan Byrd for being nominated to receive the 2010 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Illinois Department of Corrections; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Byrd serves as the leader of a team of dynamic ministers at the Dwight Correctional Center; he and his team also volunteer at the East Moline, Stateville, and Hill Correctional Centers; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Byrd is well known by his peers for his intense style, humorous nature, and great honesty; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Byrd was the founder of the Mighty X Men and Women Ministries in Rockford, a program that helps over 200 ex-offenders re-enter the community as productive citizens each year; he conducts monthly chapel services and in-depth workshops on biblical leadership at the Dwight Correctional Center, utilizing the same curriculum he uses at workshops around the world to educate the inmates at Dwight; he has assisted with Dwight's Christmas Programs and has contributed to the closet dress out program; he has also donated a great amount of time to the Daughters of Destiny Chaplaincy Mentoring Program to provide contacts, mentors, and resources to women that return to the Rockford area; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Byrd serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Pastor Jonathan Byrd for being nominated to receive the 2010 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Illinois Department of Corrections and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Pastor Jonathan Byrd as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
