1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Rogers Park Presbyterian Church is | ||||||
3 | celebrating 100 years of faithful witness and service to the | ||||||
4 | Rogers Park community in 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The Rogers Park Presbyterian Church is located at | ||||||
6 | the corner of Greenview and Greenleaf Avenues in Chicago; it | ||||||
7 | was officially organized by the Presbytery of Chicago on | ||||||
8 | January 13, 1910; the congregation began gathering in homes and | ||||||
9 | schools for worship, Christian education, and fellowship; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The first building, called the Chapel, was | ||||||
11 | dedicated in June 1912 and remains to this day central to its | ||||||
12 | ministry; by April of 1925, the congregation numbered more than | ||||||
13 | 600, and more space was needed; the second building, which | ||||||
14 | included a new sanctuary and fellowship hall, was dedicated in | ||||||
15 | January 1927; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, The Rogers Park Presbyterian Church was known in | ||||||
17 | its early years as " A Family Church for the Friendly Service | ||||||
18 | of the Community";
over the past ten decades the church has | ||||||
19 | been a faithful and caring presence in the community, | ||||||
20 | experiencing many blessings and challenges as the community | ||||||
21 | went through various changes; new groups of people moving in | ||||||
22 | and out, changes in the economy and technology, and significant |

1 | events in national and world history; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Rogers Park Presbyterian Church has been and | ||||||
3 | continues to be a safe haven for people of all persuasions and | ||||||
4 | circumstances; it is a congregation that cares for the physical | ||||||
5 | and spiritual needs of people in the community; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Rogers Park Presbyterian Church has been and | ||||||
7 | continues to be home to a number of other congregations and | ||||||
8 | fellowships of various faith traditions; the Church hosts a | ||||||
9 | number of organizations and programs that serve the community, | ||||||
10 | including the Christopher House preschool, the English as a | ||||||
11 | Second Language Program, the Cook County Probation Office: | ||||||
12 | Communities Dare to Care Program, Chicago Public Schools: Smart | ||||||
13 | Program, and the Rogers Park Garden Club; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The members of the Rogers Park Presbyterian Church | ||||||
15 | have given and continue to give their time, talent, and | ||||||
16 | resources to various local and global missions, including the | ||||||
17 | RPPC Clothing Pantry and the Good News Community Kitchen; the | ||||||
18 | Church has been and will always be a place dedicated to the | ||||||
19 | worship and service of God, and the love and care of all God's | ||||||
20 | people; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, "Faithful in all Seasons" is the theme for the | ||||||
22 | 100th anniversary celebration, recognizing the faithfulness of |

| |||||||
1 | the church members, and more importantly God's faithfulness to | ||||||
2 | them; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
4 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
5 | congratulate the congregation and pastor of Rogers Park | ||||||
6 | Presbyterian Church on their centennial celebration; and be it | ||||||
7 | further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to Deborah Paton, Pastor of the Rogers Park | ||||||
10 | Presbyterian Church, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
