| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sister M. Nicholas |
4 |
| Tosseng on the occasion of her 60th anniversary of service with |
5 |
| the educational ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Sister M. Nicholas Tosseng was born in Chicago; |
7 |
| she is one of the 4 children of the late Helen and Nicholas |
8 |
| Tosseng; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Sister Nicholas attended St. Francis de Sales |
10 |
| Grade School and High School in Chicago before entering the |
11 |
| Sisters of St. Francis; she earned her bachelor's degree from |
12 |
| the College of St. Francis (now University of St. Francis) in |
13 |
| Joliet; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Sister Nicholas began her educational ministry in |
15 |
| 1950 as a 4th grade teacher at St. Joseph's School in Joliet; |
16 |
| for most of her 37 years in the classroom, she taught the |
17 |
| middle grades at schools such as St. Francis of Assisi, St. |
18 |
| Francis de Sales, Assumption, and St. Ludmilla in Chicago; she |
19 |
| also ministered at St. Stephen in Streator, St. Joseph's in |
20 |
| Elgin, and St. Rita of Cascia in Aurora; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, While teaching in Assumption School, Sister |

| Nicholas was asked to go to Cook County Jail and tend to church |
2 |
| supplies; this turned into a commitment that lasted nearly 22 |
3 |
| years; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, In 1987, Sister Nicholas began her ministry as |
5 |
| Parish Secretary and Bookkeeper at St. Tarcissus Parish, where |
6 |
| she remained until her retirement in February of 2009; she |
7 |
| continues to serve the parish as a Eucharistic minister, and by |
8 |
| visiting the sick, unlocking the church at 5:45 A.M., sewing |
9 |
| baptismal bibs for the parish baptisms, preparing meals for |
10 |
| those in need, and collecting unused Christmas cards and |
11 |
| calendars for the incarcerated at Kolbe House; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Sister Nicholas enjoys cooking and baking and |
13 |
| enjoys giving her baked goods to the many people she helps on a |
14 |
| daily basis; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, Sister Nicholas serves as a model of hard work, |
16 |
| integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
17 |
| Illinois; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
19 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
20 |
| congratulate Sister M. Nicholas Tosseng on the occasion of her |
21 |
| 60th anniversary of service with the educational ministry of |
22 |
| the Sisters of St. Francis and wish her continued success and |
