HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Elvia Lee Steward 
4
on the occasion of her 94th birthday on August 26, 2010; and
  
 
5
    WHEREAS, Elvia Steward retired from the Manteno Mental 
6
Health Center in 1980 after many years of dedicated service; 
7
and
  
 
8
    WHEREAS, Elvia Steward served as the Pembroke Township 
9
Clerk; she was a Co-County Chairman of the Democratic Party; 
10
she was a member of the board of the Pembroke Area Family 
11
Health Center; she is a charter member of the first Sheriff's 
12
Merit Commission; she is a charter member of AFSCME Council 31 
13
and a past vice president and charter member of the AFSCME 
14
Subchapter 57 Retirees; she served as President of the Kankakee 
15
Mental Health Council; she was a member and past President of 
16
the Pembroke Community Chorus; she was a charter member of the 
17
Habitat for Humanity Board in Pembroke Township; she is a 
18
member of the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board; she serves 
19
as Chairperson of the Kankakee TRIAD of the Kankakee Sheriff's 
20
Department; she also serves as Treasurer of the Center for 
21
Re-Education and Family Training; and
  
 
22
    WHEREAS, Elvia Steward has volunteered great amounts of her

time and energy to charitable causes, including food pantries 
2
and various community organizations; and
  
 
3
    WHEREAS, Elvia Steward is a member and choir member of the 
4
Pembroke Community Reformed Church in Pembroke Township; she 
5
also serves as a Sunday School teacher, Past President of the 
6
Women's Guild, and a member of the Scholarships and Benevolence 
7
Committees at the church and has been designated Senior of the 
8
Year several times; and
  
 
9
    WHEREAS, Elvia Steward serves as a model of hard work, 
10
integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
11
Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
12
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
13
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
14
congratulate Elvia Lee Steward on the occasion of her 94th 
15
birthday and wish her many happy and healthy years to come; and 
16
be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18
presented to Elvia Steward as a symbol of our esteem and 
19
respect.
