HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Wojciech 
4
Seweryn, who was tragically killed in an airplane crash on 
5
April 10, 2010; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, Wojciech Seweryn was traveling with a Polish 
7
delegation, which included Polish President Lech Kacynski and 
8
other Polish dignitaries, to Russia for the 70th anniversary of 
9
the Katyn massacre, a slaughter of Polish prisoners of war in 
10
the village of Katyn in 1940 that killed thousands of Polish 
11
military officials, including his own father; and
  
 
12
    WHEREAS, One of Wojciech Seweryn's main passions in life 
13
was increasing awareness of the Katyn massacre and educating 
14
people on the importance of the event; and
  
 
15
    WHEREAS, Wojciech Seweryn was born on August 31, 1939 in 
16
Poland; he was educated in Poland and immigrated to the United 
17
States in 1976; and
  
 
18
    WHEREAS, Wojciech Seweryn was a talented sculptor who 
19
created sculptures and displays for local churches; he also 
20
spearheaded the construction of a memorial to the Katyn 
21
massacre at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles; and

    WHEREAS, Wojciech Seweryn is survived by his wife; his 2 
2
daughters; and his 5 grandchildren; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5
mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of 
6
Wojciech Seweryn; and be it further
  
 
7
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8
presented to the family of Wojciech Seweryn as an expression of 
9
our sympathy.
