| WHEREAS, The Winnebago County Soil and Water Conservation |
3 |
| District celebrated its 70th anniversary in May of 2010; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, The Winnebago County Soil and Water Conservation |
5 |
| District was originally formed as the Pecatonica-Durand Soil |
6 |
| Conservation District in May of 1940 with the prime objective |
7 |
| of controlling soil erosion on farmland; today the focus is |
8 |
| also on erosion in urban areas as well as water quality, water |
9 |
| protection, and water management; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, The Winnebago County Soil and Water Conservation |
11 |
| District works with the Conservation Reserve Program; the |
12 |
| program takes highly erodible land out of production and |
13 |
| restores it to grasses or native vegetation; wetland |
14 |
| restoration is also a part of the program; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, In addition, the Winnebago County Soil and Water |
16 |
| Conservation District also does soil testing, reports on |
17 |
| changes on zoning within Winnebago County and surrounding |
18 |
| municipalities, holds an annual spring tree sale; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, The Winnebago County Soil and Water Conservation |
20 |
| District also tests groundwater quality, including the annual |
21 |
| testing of well water and working with the Winnebago County |
