| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Chicago |
4 |
| Police Officer Thomas Eugene Wortham IV of Chicago, who was |
5 |
| killed in the line of duty on May 19, 2010; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on Super Bowl Sunday, January 20, 1980 |
7 |
| to Thomas Eugene Wortham III and Carolyn Wortham; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, He attended Beverly Hills Preschool and Morgan |
9 |
| Park Academy; he developed a love for science and sports while |
10 |
| in elementary school, especially baseball and soccer; he played |
11 |
| baseball in the Roseland Little League and South Side Little |
12 |
| League; he also played AYSO Soccer with the Beverly Soccer |
13 |
| League and the Blue Island Soccer League; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, He attended Brother Rice High School where he |
15 |
| studied college preparatory curriculum and was a part of the |
16 |
| football and track teams; he continued his education at the |
17 |
| University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and earned a Bachelor of |
18 |
| Arts in Communications; and |
19 |
| WHEREAS, While attending college he joined the Wisconsin |
20 |
| Army National Guard; he served in the 1-125th Infantry |
21 |
| Battalion and the 105th CAV; he attained the rank of First |

| Lieutenant and received many commendations, including the |
2 |
| Bronze Star; he served two tours in Iraq, and had recently |
3 |
| returned home from his second tour; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Wortham IV was a member of the Evergreen |
5 |
| Park and Chicago Police Departments; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, He enjoyed sky diving, scuba diving, mountain |
7 |
| climbing, and riding his motorcycle; and |
8 |
| WHEREAS, Officer Thomas Wortham IV is survived by his |
9 |
| parents; his sister, Sandra; his Grandma Fannie; his Grammie |
10 |
| Bette; his aunts, Diane and Patricia; his uncles, Homer, |
11 |
| Bernard, and Frederick; his many cousins; his many friends, the |
12 |
| love of his life, Caitlin Waldhart; his fellow police officers; |
13 |
| and a grateful community; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
15 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
16 |
| mourn, along with his family, friends, fellow officers, and |
17 |
| community, the passing of Chicago Police Officer Thomas Eugene |
18 |
| Wortham IV; and be it further
|
19 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 |
| presented to the family of Thomas Eugene Wortham IV as a symbol |
21 |
| of our sincere sympathy.
