HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jules
4 Reginald Packnett, who passed away on May 21, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jules Packnett was born on December 9, 1957, in
6 Chicago; his parents were Doris and Gregory Packnett; he
7 married Beverly Wilson in 1985; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Jules Packnett graduated from the University of
9 Illinois-Chicago; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Jules Packnett began his professional career as an
11 Account Representative with Ed Blankstein, Inc., where he
12 helped colleges and trade schools with financial aid and
13 lobbied the federal government for additional funding; he was
14 then recruited to serve as Admissions Director of Debbie's
15 Schools of Beauty Culture; he later worked for the Chicago
16 Urban League, where he supervised the Green Line Project and
17 insured minority participation on the project, and worked as a
18 human resources manager and recruiter for several firms; he and
19 his wife also took over the family business, Plaques, Trophies &
20 Gifts, from his mother; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Jules Packnett was an active member of numerous

1 community organizations; he served as Sub-Area Vice President
2 of the Chatham Avalon Park Community Council; he was a board
3 member of the 95th Street Business Association and
4 Treasurer/Finance Chair of the Chicago Association of Minority
5 Recruiters; he also worked on various political campaigns,
6 including the campaigns of Mayor Jane Byrne, Mayor Harold
7 Washington, Alderman Niles Sherman, and Alderman John Steel,
8 among others, and ran for 6th Ward Alderman in the late 1980s;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, Jules Packnett was a dedicated member of the
11 Church of the Good Shephard and served in a variety of
12 positions with the church, including Trustee; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Jules Packnett was preceded in death by his
14 parents; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Jules Packnett is survived by his wife, Beverly;
16 his children, Jules "Jake" Packnett and Monica Packnett; his
17 brother, Gregory Packnett, Jr. (Christine); his sisters,
18 Wylene Patterson and Dwan Packnett; and his many nieces,
19 nephews, and friends; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Jules Packnett will be fondly remembered by all
21 who knew and loved him for his quick wit, intelligence,
22 strength, and unmatched dedicated and love for his family and

1 friends; therefore, be it
 
2     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jules
5 Reginald Packnett; and be it further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the family of Jules Packnett as an expression of
8 our sympathy.
