HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives wish to recognize and honor the several 
4
significant anniversaries of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi 
5
Fraternity at Illinois Wesleyan University in 2010; and
  
 
6
    WHEREAS, The Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity was 
7
originally founded at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1919 as 
8
the Pi Mu Epsilon Fraternity; Pi Mu Epsilon became the Rho 
9
Chapter of Beta Kappa Fraternity in 1926, and subsequently 
10
became the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity in 1942; 
11
the chapter has owned three chapter houses in Bloomington, 
12
including the locations of 915 North Main (1922), 814 North 
13
Main (1960), and 404 East Beecher (1980); and
  
 
14
    WHEREAS, The Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and 
15
its predecessor organizations have been an important part of 
16
the Illinois Wesleyan University community for the past 91 
17
years; and
 
18
    WHEREAS, Alumni from the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi 
19
Fraternity and its predecessor organizations include 
20
noteworthy leaders in many fields, including the arts, 
21
business, education, government, healthcare, law, military, 
22
and many others; and

    WHEREAS, The Creed of Theta Chi which identifies the ideals 
2
of the fraternity states: "I believe in Theta Chi, its 
3
traditions and its ideals. Born of sturdy manhood, nurtured by 
4
resolute men, ennobled by high and sacred purpose, it has taken 
5
its place among the educational institutions of America as a 
6
promoter of knowledge, an advancer of culture, and a builder of 
7
character. It inspires true friendship; teaches Truth, 
8
Temperance, and Tolerance, extols virtue, exacts harmony, and 
9
extends a helping hand to all who seek it. I believe in the 
10
primacy of Alma Mater; in the usefulness of my Fraternity, in 
11
its influence and its accomplishments and I shall do all in my 
12
power to perpetuate its ideals, thereby serving God, my 
13
country, and my fellow man."; and
  
 
14
    WHEREAS, The members and alumni of the Beta Rho Chapter of 
15
Theta Chi Fraternity attempt to perpetuate the fraternity's 
16
ideals, including support for their alma mater, in their daily 
17
lives; and
  
 
18
    WHEREAS, The Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity is 
19
celebrating the 50th anniversary in 2010 of the opening of its 
20
chapter house at 814 North Main and the 30th anniversary of the 
21
opening of its chapter house at 404 East Beecher; therefore, be 
22
it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3
recognize and honor the 91st anniversary of the original 
4
founding of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and 
5
the 50th and 30th anniversaries of its two most recent chapter 
6
houses; and be it further
  
 
7
    RESOLVED, That we commend all Beta Rho of Theta Chi 
8
brothers, past and present, for their bond of friendship, 
9
common ideals and beliefs, and service to their communities; 
10
and be it further
 
11
    RESOLVED, That we express our best wishes for the Beta Rho 
12
Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity's continued success and growth; 
13
and be it further
 
14
    RESOLVED, That we designate October 9, 2010 as Beta Rho of 
15
Theta Chi Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
16
    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
17
delivered to the President of Illinois Wesleyan University, the 
18
Executive Director of Theta Chi Fraternity, Inc., the President 
19
of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, and the 
20
President of the Beta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Alumni 
21
Association, Inc.
