| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor Beverly Turkal on the |
4 |
| occasion of her retirement from a long and distinguished career |
5 |
| in education; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Beverly Turkal began her career as a teacher in |
7 |
| school districts in both Cook County and Jasper County; in |
8 |
| 1979, she received her first administrative position as a |
9 |
| Principal in the Jasper County School District, before becoming |
10 |
| the district's Director of Buildings and Grounds and Special |
11 |
| Education Coordinator; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, In 1986, she accepted the Assistant |
13 |
| Superintendent position in the Robinson School District and |
14 |
| became the district's Superintendent five years later; upon her |
15 |
| retirement in 1994, she served as a consultant for |
16 |
| administrator searches; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Beverly Turkal then utilized her outstanding |
18 |
| teacher mentoring skills as the Student Teaching Coordinator at |
19 |
| Eastern Illinois University; she continued her commitment to |
20 |
| education with her election to a position on the Illinois |
21 |
| Eastern Community Colleges Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2001; |
22 |
| and
|

| WHEREAS, She also aided school districts in need of |
2 |
| experienced guidance, serving short periods as Interim |
3 |
| Superintendent in the East Richland, Brussels, and Robinson |
4 |
| School Districts, and Assistant Superintendent at East |
5 |
| Richland; and |
6 |
| WHEREAS, Beverly Turkal was appointed by Governor George |
7 |
| Ryan as a member of the Illinois State Board of Education, |
8 |
| where she served with distinction from 2001 to 2004; and |
9 |
| WHEREAS, She later took on a new venture by stepping in as |
10 |
| General Manager of Quail Creek Country Club in Robinson, |
11 |
| bringing stability and leadership to one of south central |
12 |
| Illinois' premier golf courses and resorts; and |
13 |
| WHEREAS, Beverly Turkal's latest professional venture led |
14 |
| her to a three and a half year tenure as President of Lincoln |
15 |
| Trail College in Robinson; among her greatest accomplishments |
16 |
| at Lincoln Trail was the establishment of a long-sought welding |
17 |
| program to benefit the growing technical and vocational needs |
18 |
| of Crawford County and the surrounding area; and |
19 |
| WHEREAS, Beverly Turkal holds Bachelor's, Master's, and |
20 |
| Specialist Degrees from Eastern Illinois University; in April |
21 |
| of 2010, she was recognized with the EIU Distinguished Graduate |

| Alumni Award for her tireless work for the betterment of |
2 |
| Illinois' public schools; she credits her much-needed receipt |
3 |
| of an EIU undergraduate scholarship as the catalyst for her |
4 |
| chosen career path; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Beverly Turkal has served as a model of hard work, |
6 |
| integrity, dedication, and success for the people of the State |
7 |
| of Illinois; therefore, be it
|
8 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
9 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
10 |
| congratulate Beverly Turkal on the occasion of her retirement |
11 |
| from a lifetime of devotion to education and wish her many |
12 |
| happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further
|
13 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
14 |
| presented to Beverly Turkal as a symbol of our esteem and |
15 |
| respect.
