| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor and congratulate the |
| 4 |
| Honorable Michael Stuttley, Chief Judge of the Sixth Municipal |
| 5 |
| District of the Circuit Court of Cook County, on his retirement |
| 6 |
| on August 20, 2010; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Judge Stuttley is a native of Cook County, born in |
| 8 |
| Chicago Housing Authority's Altgeld Gardens housing project, |
| 9 |
| and was one of twelve children; he is rooted in the community |
| 10 |
| and maintains a basic philosophy from the bench: "If a child is |
| 11 |
| willing to make amends for his/her wrongdoing, we have the |
| 12 |
| tools to assist."; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Honorable Michael W. Stuttley earned a Juris |
| 14 |
| Doctorate from the John Marshall Law School of Chicago; Judge |
| 15 |
| Stuttley was admitted to the Illinois Bar on November 5, 1979; |
| 16 |
| over the past 19 years he has served as a judge for the circuit |
| 17 |
| court of Cook County and the past 15 years has served in |
| 18 |
| Juvenile Court; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Judge Stuttley is the Supervising Judge for the |
| 20 |
| Circuit Court of Cook County, Juvenile Division, and Presiding |
| 21 |
| Judge for the Sixth Municipal District of Cook County; Judge |
| 22 |
| Stuttley's trial and legal experience includes administrative |

| law, criminal defense, family law, personal injury, real estate |
| 2 |
| transactions and development, probate taxation, and juvenile |
| 3 |
| law; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Judge Stuttley has been recognized with more than |
| 5 |
| 300 awards and honors for his volunteerism and community |
| 6 |
| service; he presently serves as Chair of the South Suburban |
| 7 |
| Disproportionate Minority Confinement Forum on Youth (SSDMC) |
| 8 |
| Foundation as well as on the board of directors for numerous |
| 9 |
| civic and professional organizations, including the Altgeld |
| 10 |
| Health Center, Roseland Community Hospital, Illinois Judges' |
| 11 |
| Association, South Suburban Juvenile Officers Association, and |
| 12 |
| the University of Chicago Office of Special Programs; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Judge Stuttley also serves as a Judicial Mentor, |
| 14 |
| Chief Judges Mentoring Program, Circuit Court of Cook County |
| 15 |
| and Facilitator, Supreme Court Committee on Judicial |
| 16 |
| Performance, among many other civic duties; therefore, be it
|
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 19 |
| congratulate Judge Stuttley on his retirement and wish him the |
| 20 |
| best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
|
| 21 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 |
| presented to Judge Michael Stuttley as a symbol of our respect |
