HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jon
4Alexander Daye, who passed away on July 8, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jon Daye was well known by many for being on the
6cutting edge of the 21st century; in the early 1970s, he began
7appearing on talk television, where he chose topics regarding
8the African-American community at large; through his shows, he
9provided a forum for black candidates, judges, aldermen and
10county officials to express their message to the community; his
11guests included former Chicago Mayors Harold Washington and
12Eugene Sawyer; he and his shows were also instrumental in the
13election of U.S. Senator Roland Burris and Cook County Board
14President Todd Stroger; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jon Daye was a radio personality on WVON Radio's
16"On Target"; he was a television talk show host on Star Planet
17Television Network, Cable Channel 25; he was also the host of
18"Straight Talk", which led to his own show, "News Talk", on
19Rev. Harold Bailey's PCC Network; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jon Daye was an author and the founder and
21president of several worthwhile awards, including the coveted
22Kizzy Award, which recognized women for their professional

1accomplishments and community service, the Success Awards,
2which recognized men for their distinguished accomplishments,
3and the Black Woman Hall of Fame Foundation, which recognized a
4long list of women luminaries with the Bethune-Tubman Truth
5Award; through his various awards programs, he reached out to
6innumerable local and national "dignitaries" - recipients of
7his awards; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jon Daye is survived by his fiancee, Bernadine
9Whiteurst; his daughters, Christy Robinson (Dore) and Tracy
10Landing; his grandchildren; and his many other family members
11and friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jon
15Alexander Daye; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Jon Daye as an expression of our
18sympathy.
