HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the citizens of the City of Edwardsville on the occasion of being named one of the top 10 towns in the nation to raise a family by Family Circle magazine; and

WHEREAS, To choose the top 10 towns in the nation to raise a family, Family Circle magazine hired a New York research firm to analyze data and demographics from 1,700 towns with populations between 15,000 and 150,000; to be on the list, a town must feature affordable homes, high-quality schools, access to health care, green space, crime rates, and financial stability, as well as an average income of about $75,000; and

WHEREAS, The City of Edwardsville was named a top town in the nation to raise a family for the many child-friendly programs that are offered in the city, including various reading programs at the Edwardsville Public Library, the Children's Museum in Edwardsville, the Watershed Nature Center, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, Arts in the Park, the Edwardsville Municipal Band, Edwardsville's top-rated school system, and nearly-universal membership in the local YMCA; and

WHEREAS, The City of Edwardsville's unwavering commitment to providing a safe, clean, and intellectual environment for the children of the city is worthy of the greatest respect; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the citizens of the City of Edwardsville on the occasion of being named one of the top 10 towns in the nation to raise a family by Family Circle magazine and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Edwardsville Mayor Gary Niebur as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
