HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Judge Patrick E. McGann was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1972 after graduating from the DePaul University College of Law; he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton in 1969; and

WHEREAS, From 1969 to 1977, he served in the United States Army Reserve; he married Kathleen in 1971, and they have 3 children, Elizabeth, Tricia, and Patrick, and 2 grandchildren, Bridget and Margaret; and

WHEREAS, He was a Cook County Assistant State's Attorney from 1972 to 1978 and in private practice from 1978 to 1988; on June 17, 1988, he was sworn in as an Associate Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County and served initially in Traffic Court as an assistant supervisor to Judge Wayne Anderson and later under Judge Harvey Schwartz; and

WHEREAS, In 1992, he was elected a full Circuit Judge from the 3rd Judicial Subcircuit; from 1993 to 1996, he served in the Law Division; in 1996, he was designated the Supervising Judge of the Traffic Center, a position he held until August 2001; in his supervisory position in Traffic Court, he served as a mentor to more than 120 new judges; and

WHEREAS, In July of 2001, Judge McGann was transferred to the Chancery Division; in October of 2005, he was named the Presiding Judge of the County Division, where he served until his retirement on August 31, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure on the bench, he lectured and taught extensively and was happy to assist his colleagues whenever he could; he served as an officer of the Illinois Judges Association from 1996 to 2000 and was elected as its president in 1999; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Judge McGann on his retirement and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Judge Patrick McGann as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
