HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Stuart
4Charles Hoehne; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne was born on September 23, 1930, in
6Greenbush, Wisconsin; his parents were Eldon and Ruth (nee
7Laack) Hoehne; he attended Gavin Elementary and Grant Community
8High School, where he was a Golden Glove Boxer; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne served as a corporal in the United
10States Army from 1948 to 1951; during his service, he was
11honored and commended for his performance in extremely
12hazardous duty at Obersalzberg, Eagle's Nest Road, a location
13near Berchtesgaden, Bavaria; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After his service in the Army, Stuart Hoehne
15worked with his grandfather, Ben Hoehne, and his father, Eldon
16Hoehne, at Hoehne Sand & Gravel; he later began his own
17business, the Stuart C. Hoehne Excavating, Inc., which operated
18from 1964 to 1974; during that time, he held a position on the
19Fox Lake Planning and Zoning Board for the Village of Fox Lake
20and eventually became a village trustee, where he was later
21elected for a second term; in 1974, he was hired by the Village
22of Fox Lake as Foreman of Public Works; in 1978, he became

1Superintendent in Fox Lake, where he served until his
2retirement in October of 1995; during his career, he proudly
3served under 9 Mayors of Fox Lake; and
 
4    WHEREAS, In 1957, Stuart Hoehne joined the Fox Lake
5Volunteer Fire Department; he rose steadily through the ranks,
6becoming Lieutenant, Captain, and then Assistant Chief before
7becoming Chief in 1981; he served as Chief until his retirement
8in 2001; that same year, Fox Lake Mayor Nancy Koske appointed
9him to serve as Chief Emeritus; during his tenure as Fire
10Chief, he was responsible for 2 major expansions of Fire
11Station #2 on Washington Avenue and the construction of Station
12#3 on Molidor Road and Station #4 on State Park Road; Station
13#4 was dedicated and named in honor of his service to the
14community; he was also the chairman of the first Fox Lake
15Volunteer Fireman's Festival Days; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne was an active member of several
17organizations, including the Republican Party, where he was
18elected to serve as a precinct committeeman in the 1960s; he
19was also a member of the American Legion Post 703 in Fox Lake
20for 58 years, a charter member of the VFW, and a member of the
21Lake County Fire Chiefs Association, the Illinois Fire Chiefs
22Association, and the International Fire Chiefs Association;

1    WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne was preceded in death by his
2parents; his wife, Marilyn; his brother, David; and his
3grandson, Donald Rogers; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne is survived by his children, Richard
5(Carole Jo) Hoehne, Nancy (Jimmy) Rogers, Ronald (Rose) Hoehne,
6and Lawrence (Veronica) Hoehne; his stepdaughter, Kim Minne;
7his grandchildren, Richard E. (Kimberly) Hoehne, Kristena
8Clark, Dori Rand, Michael Hoehne, Veronica (Matt) Lukemeyer,
9Joanna Hoehne, Daniel, Steven, and Emily Hoehne, Tiffany and
10Leo Minne Jr., Renee Mraz, and Zackery Rogers; his
11great-grandchildren, Larry and Emily Hoehne, Carly and
12Nicholas Rand, Kassandra and Kameron Clark, and Jacob Mraz; his
13brothers, Roger (Chris) Hoehne, Gary Hoehne, and Jim Hoehne;
14his sister, Bonnie Smith; and his many nieces, nephews, and
15other relatives; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Stuart
19Charles Hoehne; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Stuart Hoehne as an expression of
22our sympathy.
