HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Stuart Charles Hoehne; and

WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne was born on September 23, 1930, in Greenbush, Wisconsin; his parents were Eldon and Ruth (nee Laack) Hoehne; he attended Gavin Elementary and Grant Community High School, where he was a Golden Glove Boxer; and

WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne served as a corporal in the United States Army from 1948 to 1951; during his service, he was honored and commended for his performance in extremely hazardous duty at Obersalzberg, Eagle's Nest Road, a location near Berchtesgaden, Bavaria; and

WHEREAS, After his service in the Army, Stuart Hoehne worked with his grandfather, Ben Hoehne, and his father, Eldon Hoehne, at Hoehne Sand & Gravel; he later began his own business, the Stuart C. Hoehne Excavating, Inc., which operated from 1964 to 1974; during that time, he held a position on the Fox Lake Planning and Zoning Board for the Village of Fox Lake and eventually became a village trustee, where he was later elected for a second term; in 1974, he was hired by the Village of Fox Lake as Foreman of Public Works; in 1978, he became Superintendent in Fox Lake, where he served until his retirement in October of 1995; during his career, he proudly served under 9 Mayors of Fox Lake; and

WHEREAS, In 1957, Stuart Hoehne joined the Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Department; he rose steadily through the ranks, becoming Lieutenant, Captain, and then Assistant Chief before becoming Chief in 1981; he served as Chief until his retirement in 2001; that same year, Fox Lake Mayor Nancy Koske appointed him to serve as Chief Emeritus; during his tenure as Fire Chief, he was responsible for 2 major expansions of Fire Station #2 on Washington Avenue and the construction of Station #3 on Molidor Road and Station #4 on State Park Road; Station #4 was dedicated and named in honor of his service to the community; he was also the chairman of the first Fox Lake Volunteer Fireman's Festival Days; and

WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne was an active member of several organizations, including the Republican Party, where he was elected to serve as a precinct committeeman in the 1960s; he was also a member of the American Legion Post 703 in Fox Lake for 58 years, a charter member of the VFW, and a member of the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association, the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, and the International Fire Chiefs Association; and

WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn; his brother, David; and his grandson, Donald Rogers; and

WHEREAS, Stuart Hoehne is survived by his children, Richard (Carole Jo) Hoehne, Nancy (Jimmy) Rogers, Ronald (Rose) Hoehne, and Lawrence (Veronica) Hoehne; his stepdaughter, Kim Minne; his grandchildren, Richard E. (Kimberly) Hoehne, Kristena Clark, Dori Rand, Michael Hoehne, Veronica (Matt) Lukemeyer, Joanna Hoehne, Daniel, Steven, and Emily Hoehne, Tiffany and Leo Minne Jr., Renee Mraz, and Zackery Rogers; his great-grandchildren, Larry and Emily Hoehne, Carly and Nicholas Rand, Kassandra and Kameron Clark, and Jacob Mraz; his brothers, Roger (Chris) Hoehne, Gary Hoehne, and Jim Hoehne; his sister, Bonnie Smith; and his many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Stuart Charles Hoehne; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Stuart Hoehne as an expression of our sympathy.
