HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the former mayor of 
4Loves Park, Joe Sinkiawic, on his 90th birthday; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Sinkiawic was born on September 2, 1920 and 
6will celebrate his birthday on September 11, 2010 with his 
7family and friends; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Joe resides in Loves Park; his parents came to the 
9United States in the early 1900s from Lithuania; he and his 
10wife, Mabel, raised their children in the community; she passed 
11away in 2002; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, He attended Loves Park Grade School and graduated 
13from Harlem High School in 1938; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, He worked for National Lock for 15 months and then 
15attended Southern Illinois Normal Teacher's College for two 
16years, until the bombing of Pearl Harbor caused him to 
17volunteer and join  the United States Army; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, After the war, he returned to Southern and met his 
19wife and later  graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree; the 
20couple returned to Loves Park, where Joe taught school and

1coached several sports teams; he later served as principal of 
2North Park Elementary School; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Joe became a Loves Park alderman in 1952 and was 
4elected its mayor in 1977; he retired from the position in 
51997;  therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8congratulate "Mayor Joe" Sinkiawic on his 90th birthday and 
9wish him continued good health and happiness for years to come; 
10and be it further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to "Mayor Joe" Sinkiawic as a symbol of our respect 
13and esteem.
