| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Russell |
| 4 | | Edward Christian of Grayslake, who passed away on August 8, |
| 5 | | 2010; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian was born in Waukegan on |
| 7 | | September 5, 1928; his parents were Stanley and Hazel (nee |
| 8 | | Kapheim) Christian; he married Shirley Oilschlager on February |
| 9 | | 27, 1965, in Lindenhurst; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian graduated from Waukegan High |
| 11 | | School in 1946; he served his country with pride and |
| 12 | | distinction as a member of the United States Army's 11th |
| 13 | | Airborne Division; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian served as an accounting |
| 15 | | supervisor with the Frank G. Hough Company/International |
| 16 | | Harvester/Dresser Industries in Libertyville for many years |
| 17 | | until his retirement in 1987; in 1989, he was elected to the |
| 18 | | position of Avon Township supervisor, serving the residents of |
| 19 | | the Round Lake communities, Hainesville, Grayslake, Third Lake |
| 20 | | and surrounding unincorporated areas; he served in that |
| 21 | | position until April of 2006; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian was a charter member of the VFW |
| 2 | | Ron Hill Memorial Post 2245; he served on the Grayslake High |
| 3 | | School Board of Education and served as a Grayslake Village |
| 4 | | trustee for 12 years; he served as executive director of the |
| 5 | | Grayslake Chamber of Commerce and was a founding member and |
| 6 | | chairman of the Grayslake Economic Development Commission; he |
| 7 | | was active in the Grayslake Lions Club, the Military Order of |
| 8 | | the Cooties Pup Tent IL081, the American Legion Post 0659, and |
| 9 | | the St. Therese Janssen Foundation Board of Directors; he was |
| 10 | | also a charter member of the Grayslake Kiwanis Club and a |
| 11 | | member of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian is fondly remembered by many in |
| 13 | | the Round Lake and Grayslake areas as "Santa", a role that gave |
| 14 | | him much pleasure; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian was preceded in death by his |
| 16 | | parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and |
| 17 | | Rosella Oilschlager; his brother, Richard Christian; and his |
| 18 | | grandson, Grant Russell Christian; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Russell Christian is survived by his loving wife |
| 20 | | of 45 years, Shirley; his children, Karen (Kirk Smith) |
| 21 | | Christian Smith, John (Shelly) Christian, and Patti Gail (Jack |
| 22 | | Wells) Byers; his grandchildren, Lucas and Alec Christian, |
| 23 | | Benjamin and Molly Smith, Michael (Lisa) Lessard, and Joshua |

| 1 | | (Freddie) Johnson; and his 2 great-grandchildren; therefore, |
| 2 | | be it

| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 4 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 5 | | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of |
| 6 | | Russell Edward Christian; and be it further
|
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 8 | | presented to the family of Russell Christian as an expression |
| 9 | | of our sympathy.
