HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Norman Groetzinger on his retirement as Executive Director of the Counseling Center of Lake View on September 26, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Norman J. Groetzinger has served as the Executive Director of the Counseling Center of Lake View since 1975; during his tenure at the Counseling Center, he has also served on the boards of Alderman Tunney's Community Directed Development Council, the Lake View Action Coalition, the Central Lake View Merchants' Association, the Chicago Public Welfare Coalition, the Lincoln Belmont Pantry, the Cross Roads Fund, and a variety of other philanthropic organizations; and

WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the Counseling Center of Lake View has added many programs, including: the Child and Adolescent Services Program; Gay Horizons, which is now known as the Center on Halsted; the Older Adults Program, a home-based program that provides services to the elderly and mentally ill; a geriatric psychosocial rehabilitation services program called "21st Century Seniors"; the Sojourners Program, a case management and "deflection from hospitalization" program that serves the homeless and mentally ill; the Alternatives to Hospitalization program, which became an Assertive Community Treatment program and is now part of the Community Support Team; and Projecto Asistencia Social, which grew out of the Latino Counseling Program and began offering immigration services in the early 1990s; and

WHEREAS, Prior to serving at the Counseling Center, Mr. Groetzinger served with the Mary Crane Nursery School, the Logan Square Church, the North Center for Handicapped Children, and the Philadelphia Tutorial Project and earned a M.A. in Health Policy and Planning from the University of Chicago's School of Social Service and Administration, a M.A. in Theology from the University of Chicago's Meadville Theological School, and a M.A. in East Asian Studies from Yale University; and

WHEREAS, Prior to coming to Chicago in 1969, he and his wife, Linda, served for two years as Peace Corps volunteers in the family planning program of the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India; and

WHEREAS, Upon retirement he plans to devote more time to attending Chicago Symphony Orchestra concerts and volunteering with the Saints, a non-profit organization that provides ushering and other services for Chicago and suburban theater, dance, and music organizations; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Norman Groetzinger on his retirement and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Norman Groetzinger as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
