| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Norman Groetzinger | ||||||
| 4 | on his retirement as Executive Director of the Counseling | ||||||
| 5 | Center of Lake View on September 26, 2010; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Norman J. Groetzinger has served as the Executive | ||||||
| 7 | Director of the Counseling Center of Lake View since 1975; | ||||||
| 8 | during his tenure at the Counseling Center, he has also served | ||||||
| 9 | on the boards of Alderman Tunney's Community Directed | ||||||
| 10 | Development Council, the Lake View Action Coalition, the | ||||||
| 11 | Central Lake View Merchants' Association, the Chicago Public | ||||||
| 12 | Welfare Coalition, the Lincoln Belmont Pantry, the Cross Roads | ||||||
| 13 | Fund, and a variety of other philanthropic organizations; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the Counseling Center of | ||||||
| 15 | Lake View has added many programs, including: the Child and | ||||||
| 16 | Adolescent Services Program; Gay Horizons, which is now known | ||||||
| 17 | as the Center on Halsted; the Older Adults Program, a | ||||||
| 18 | home-based program that provides services to the elderly and | ||||||
| 19 | mentally ill; a geriatric psychosocial rehabilitation services | ||||||
| 20 | program called "21st Century Seniors"; the Sojourners Program, | ||||||
| 21 | a case management and "deflection from hospitalization" | ||||||
| 22 | program that serves the homeless and mentally ill; the | ||||||
| 23 | Alternatives to Hospitalization program, which became an | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Assertive Community Treatment program and is now part of the | ||||||
| 2 | Community Support Team; and Projecto Asistencia Social, which | ||||||
| 3 | grew out of the Latino Counseling Program and began offering | ||||||
| 4 | immigration services in the early 1990s; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Prior to serving at the Counseling Center, Mr. | ||||||
| 6 | Groetzinger served with the Mary Crane Nursery School, the | ||||||
| 7 | Logan Square Church, the North Center for Handicapped Children, | ||||||
| 8 | and the Philadelphia Tutorial Project and earned a M.A. in | ||||||
| 9 | Health Policy and Planning from the University of Chicago's | ||||||
| 10 | School of Social Service and Administration, a M.A. in Theology | ||||||
| 11 | from the University of Chicago's Meadville Theological School, | ||||||
| 12 | and a M.A. in East Asian Studies from Yale University; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Prior to coming to Chicago in 1969, he and his | ||||||
| 14 | wife, Linda, served for two years as Peace Corps volunteers in | ||||||
| 15 | the family planning program of the state of Madhya Pradesh in | ||||||
| 16 | central India; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Upon retirement he plans to devote more time to | ||||||
| 18 | attending Chicago Symphony Orchestra concerts and volunteering | ||||||
| 19 | with the Saints, a non-profit organization that provides | ||||||
| 20 | ushering and other services for Chicago and suburban theater, | ||||||
| 21 | dance, and music organizations; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||

| 1 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 2 | congratulate Norman Groetzinger on his retirement and wish him | ||||||
| 3 | the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 5 | presented to Norman Groetzinger as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 6 | esteem.
