| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary Sweadner on |
| 4 | | her 100th birthday; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary was born on September 30th, 1910 in the small |
| 6 | | town of Lynd, Minnesota; she was the second of six children |
| 7 | | welcomed by Frederick and Mabel Vanstrom; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from Winona State Teachers |
| 9 | | College, Mary began working at the local Montgomery Wards |
| 10 | | store, earning a good salary and sending money home to help |
| 11 | | with the younger kids; it was the Great Depression, and she |
| 12 | | would often have a 5-cent Coke for breakfast, cheaper than |
| 13 | | orange juice;
Wards later sent Mary to their stores throughout |
| 14 | | Minnesota and the Dakotas when she discovered an accounting |
| 15 | | error; Mary was then sent to the company headquarters in |
| 16 | | Chicago, where she worked in "Standard Procedures"; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, She fell in love with the City of Chicago; she |
| 18 | | loved going to the Art Institute, and has been a long-time |
| 19 | | member; she met the new guy in the finance department at Wards, |
| 20 | | Richard Sweadner, they had a whirlwind courtship, and were |
| 21 | | married on August 2, 1946; and
