| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff and | ||||||
| 4 | congregation of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Lake Forest on | ||||||
| 5 | the centennial celebration of the church, October 2-3, 2010; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, A missionary circuit in 1837 ministered to by | ||||||
| 8 | Father John Guegnin saw the emergence of gathering places for | ||||||
| 9 | families to express their belief in God; St. Patrick Catholic | ||||||
| 10 | Church in Lake Forest was one of the churches to count their | ||||||
| 11 | origins from that humble start; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Part of the celebration will include a permanent | ||||||
| 13 | history display that will show old photographs, documentation, | ||||||
| 14 | sacramental records, such as first communions, weddings, and | ||||||
| 15 | confirmations, and will highlight the service of previous | ||||||
| 16 | pastors; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Thomas Quinn became St. Patrick's first pastor in | ||||||
| 18 | 1909; in 1910, the initial small building for St. Patrick | ||||||
| 19 | Catholic Church was built and is still used today as an | ||||||
| 20 | intimate setting for daily Mass, as a part of other additions | ||||||
| 21 | to the original edifice; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The church was originally a mission of a | ||||||
| 2 | Waukegan-based congregation and was first called St. | ||||||
| 3 | Michael's; by the mid-1860s became known as St. Patrick; a | ||||||
| 4 | brick church was constructed in 1853 at Waukegan Road and Route | ||||||
| 5 | 60 and rebuilt in 1883; the bricks of the first church were | ||||||
| 6 | recycled into a new building; in 1875, lightning hit the church | ||||||
| 7 | and destroyed it and it was rebuilt only to burn again 20 years | ||||||
| 8 | later; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, By 1995, a new church building was needed to host | ||||||
| 10 | all family members; Cardinal Francis George dedicated the new | ||||||
| 11 | building on March 22, 1998; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 14 | congratulate the staff and congregation of St. Patrick Catholic | ||||||
| 15 | Church of Lake Forest and wish them continued joy for years to | ||||||
| 16 | come; and be it further

| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to Reverend Laurence Dunn as a symbol of our respect | ||||||
| 19 | and esteem.
