HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4States Army Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell of Pleasant Plains,
5who passed away on September 21, 2010, due to injuries
6sustained in a helicopter accident in Zabul Province,
7Afghanistan; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell served with the
9101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division at Fort
10Campbell, Kentucky; and
 
11    WHEREAS, He was born in Springfield on November 10, 1984,
12the son of David and Susan Brooks Powell; he was a 2003
13graduate of Pleasant Plains High School, where he lettered all
14four years in varsity soccer; he was a member of the Western
15Oaks Baptist Church; and
 
16    WHEREAS, He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed collecting
17guns; he was a motorcyclist and recently became a St. Louis
18Cardinal fan; and
 
19    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his maternal
20grandfather, James M. Brooks; his uncle, Michael Powell; and
21his great-grandparents; and

1    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell is survived by his
2parents, Susan (husband, Doug) Needham and David (wife,
3Theresa) Powell; his brothers, Travis (wife, Brea) Powell and
4Zachary Powell; his maternal grandmother, Judy Brooks; his
5paternal grandparents, John and Doris Powell; his great
6grandmother, Iva Hinrichs; his aunt, Becky Powell; his uncle,
7Jeff Brooks; his girlfriend, Rebecca Elshoff; and several
8cousins; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation,
12the passing of Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Joshua
15D. Powell and his willingness to serve his country, which led
16to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Staff Sergeant Joshua D. Powell as a
19symbol of our sincere sympathy.
