HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Marty Gainer on the occasion of his retirement from the Chicago Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Marty Gainer earned his bachelor's degree in criminal/social justice from Lewis University and his MBA from St. Xavier University; and

WHEREAS, Marty Gainer served in the United States Army for 3 years; he subsequently worked as a truck driver, worked in a warehouse, worked at a meat packing company, and worked in a police garage in the Chicago Police Department's motor maintenance unit at 51st Street and Wentworth Avenue before entering the police academy in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Marty Gainer has had a long and distinguished career as a police officer; he worked in the 21st, 4th, and 22nd Districts and served in the Department's Organized Crime Unit from 1991 to 2007; he worked on a DEA taskforce and the Department's Intelligence Section and Technical Services Unit investigating narcotics and violent crimes; in 2003, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant; in 2007, was reunited with the 22nd District as a beat team sergeant, coordinating neighborhood CAPS meetings; in May of 2009, he replaced Sgt. Mike Casey to become community relations sergeant; he also worked as a liaison between the police and community groups to handle events like the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk and Ridge Run; and

WHEREAS, There has been at least one member of the Gainer family serving in the Chicago Police Department since 1907, when Gainer's grandfather, William A. Gainer, joined the force; his older brothers, Jim, Tim, Terry, and Jack, are all former Chicago police officers as well; and

WHEREAS, Marty Gainer is an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs; because of this, Marty's nephew, Tim, and his 3 daughters have become avid Cubs fans also; and

WHEREAS, Marty Gainer plans to spend his retirement teaching criminal justice courses online for Kaplan University and spending with his family, including his wife, Marianne, and his daughters, Courtney, Elizabeth, and Kerri; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Marty Gainer on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Marty Gainer as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
