2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mother |
4 | | Luida M. Jones (Nana) of Harvey, who passed away on October 22, |
5 | | 2010; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, She was born on February 14, 1917, in Parkin, |
7 | | Arkansas, to the union of the late Alberta and Elder James H. |
8 | | Bell; she accepted Christ at an early age and lived a saved and |
9 | | sanctified life throughout her entire life; she became a |
10 | | lifetime member of the Church of God in Christ in Memphis, |
11 | | Tennessee, under the leadership of the late Bishop C.H. Mason; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, After high school, Mother Jones attended Saints |
14 | | Industrial School in Lexington, Mississippi; she was later |
15 | | called upon to teach at an elementary school in her hometown; |
16 | | Mother Jones retired from Oak Forest Hospital of Cook County in |
17 | | Oak Forest; she moved to Harvey with her parents in 1940 and |
18 | | joined the late Elder Bennie E. Goodwin at Portland Street |
19 | | Church of God in Christ in Chicago Heights, where she served |
20 | | faithfully as a church mother, Sunday school teacher, and an |
21 | | evangelist; after many years of faithful service, she was |
22 | | united with the late Bishop H.W. Goldsberry at Faith Temple |
23 | | Church of God in Christ in Chicago, where she continued to |

1 | | serve on the Mother's Board under the leadership of Elder |
2 | | William H. Allen; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Mother Jones was united in marriage to her late |
4 | | husband Reverend Walter W. Jones, Sr. on October 16, 1942; she |
5 | | enjoyed attending school functions, P.T.A, reading, |
6 | | crocheting, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren; |
7 | | she was kind to everyone and loved all children; she beamed |
8 | | with love and became a guiding light to all; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; and her |
10 | | children, Rose and Edward; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Mother Luida M. Jones (Nana) leaves to cherish her |
12 | | loving memories, her children, Walter W. Jones, Jr. (Denitra), |
13 | | LaVerne Turnbo-Bell, and Audrey Holmes-McClellon; her sister, |
14 | | Clarissia Bell-Knox; her grandchildren, Shavelle Danae Bell, |
15 | | Brandon Jones, Tyrone Steele, Cameron Erica Holmes, Kenneth |
16 | | Holmes, Kristin Holmes, Ellis McClellon, and Monte McClellon; |
17 | | along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, |
18 | | and friends; therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
20 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
21 | | mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Mother |
22 | | Luida Jones; and be it further
