2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United | ||||||
4 | States Army Private First Class Andrew N. Meari of Plainfield, | ||||||
5 | who gave his life defending America's freedom on November 1, | ||||||
6 | 2010, in the Zhari district of Kandahar, Afghanistan; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari was born on September 14, 1989 in | ||||||
8 | Chicago; he was the son of Denise Meehan of Plainfield and | ||||||
9 | Mahmoud Meari of Grafton, Wisconsin; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari attended Drauden Point Middle | ||||||
11 | School and Plainfield South High School; he subsequently earned | ||||||
12 | his diploma from Port Washington High School in Wisconsin, | ||||||
13 | where he graduated early, before joining the U.S. Army in 2008; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari served with Company A, 1st | ||||||
16 | Battalion, 502nd Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st | ||||||
17 | Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari was awarded the National Defense | ||||||
19 | Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War | ||||||
20 | on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the | ||||||
21 | Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Combat Infantry Badge in |

1 | recognition of his service; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, United States and Illinois flags throughout the | ||||||
3 | State will be flown at half-staff from November 8-10, 2010, as | ||||||
4 | a symbol of mourning and to honor the sacrifice of PFC Andrew | ||||||
5 | Meari; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari will be remembered for his love | ||||||
7 | of country, generous spirit, patriotism, and love for his | ||||||
8 | family and friends; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari dedicated his life to defending | ||||||
10 | America's freedom and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to | ||||||
11 | his nation; he will be dearly missed by his mother, Denise | ||||||
12 | (Gerald) Meehan; his father, Mahmoud (Aisha) Meari; his | ||||||
13 | brothers, Ethan and Andrew; his sister, Jenna; his grandmother, | ||||||
14 | Vivienne Williams; his uncle, Todd (Stacie) Williams; his | ||||||
15 | fellow soldiers; and the citizens of a grateful nation; | ||||||
16 | therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | mourn, along with his family, friends, and the members of a | ||||||
20 | grateful nation, the passing of United States Army Private | ||||||
21 | First Class Andrew N. Meari; and be it further
