| 2 | | WHEREAS, This year, millions of school children around the |
| 3 | | world will benefit from D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance |
| 4 | | Education), the highly acclaimed program that gives kids the |
| 5 | | skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and |
| 6 | | violence; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles; the |
| 8 | | program has proven so successful that it is now being |
| 9 | | implemented in 75% of our nation's school districts and in more |
| 10 | | than 43 countries around the world; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of |
| 12 | | classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten |
| 13 | | through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live |
| 14 | | productive drug and violence-free lives; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Illinois D.A.R.E. recently held a statewide |
| 16 | | design-a-poster contest with a drug-free theme; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Two fifth-grade students out of numerous entries |
| 18 | | from across the State of Illinois were declared the winners of |
| 19 | | the contest, Makenzie S. Williams from Galesburg and Nolan Byrd |
| 20 | | from Joliet; and
|
