HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bruno
4Bartoszek of Aurora, who passed away on November 1, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born February 27, 1922 in Toporow, Poland
6to the late Simon and Zofia Bartoszek; he was a World War II
7veteran; in 1942, he joined the Polish Army after he and his
8family were released from Siberian work camps in the Soviet
9Union; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He was a member of the Polish 2nd Corps, 3rd
11Carpathian Division under British Command; he saw action in
12Libya, Italy, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, and Lebanon; he
13fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino when the Polish Army
14defeated the German forces in May of 1944; he was awarded
15several medals during his time of service, including the
16Virtuti Militari medal, which is the Polish equivalent to the
17Congressional Medal of Honor, the Army Medal(Polish), the
181939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the Defense Medal, and the Cross
19of Monte Cassino Medal (Polish); and
 
20    WHEREAS, After the war, he worked in the British War Office
21in London, England before coming to the United States in 1951;
22he worked for Aurora Pump, the Burlington Northern Railroad,

1and subsequently retired as an agent for the Prudential
2Insurance Company; and
 
3    WHEREAS, He was a member of several local clubs and
4historical societies in Aurora and the surrounding
5communities; he was a volunteer tutor at Waubonsee Community
6College for their ESL program and was a longtime volunteer with
7the Boy Scouts of America; he was named Grand Marshal for
8Aurora's Fourth of July parade in 1996; and he was a member of
9Our Lady of Good Counsel Church; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna,
11Teofilia, and Mary; and his brothers, Frank and John; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek is survived by his wife, Wanda;
13his daughter, Annette (Rick) Lawrence; his son, Jack (Donita)
14Bartoszek; his grandchildren, Sarah and Stephanie Lawrence,
15and Allen Bartoszek; his sister, Angela Buczkiewicz; his
16half-brothers, Casmir and Stanley; and his numerous nieces and
17nephews; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bruno
21Bartoszek; and be it further
