2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bruno | ||||||
4 | Bartoszek of Aurora, who passed away on November 1, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born February 27, 1922 in Toporow, Poland | ||||||
6 | to the late Simon and Zofia Bartoszek; he was a World War II | ||||||
7 | veteran; in 1942, he joined the Polish Army after he and his | ||||||
8 | family were released from Siberian work camps in the Soviet | ||||||
9 | Union; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, He was a member of the Polish 2nd Corps, 3rd | ||||||
11 | Carpathian Division under British Command; he saw action in | ||||||
12 | Libya, Italy, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, and Lebanon; he | ||||||
13 | fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino when the Polish Army | ||||||
14 | defeated the German forces in May of 1944; he was awarded | ||||||
15 | several medals during his time of service, including the | ||||||
16 | Virtuti Militari medal, which is the Polish equivalent to the | ||||||
17 | Congressional Medal of Honor, the Army Medal(Polish), the | ||||||
18 | 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the Defense Medal, and the Cross | ||||||
19 | of Monte Cassino Medal (Polish); and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, After the war, he worked in the British War Office | ||||||
21 | in London, England before coming to the United States in 1951; | ||||||
22 | he worked for Aurora Pump, the Burlington Northern Railroad, |

| |||||||
1 | and subsequently retired as an agent for the Prudential | ||||||
2 | Insurance Company; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, He was a member of several local clubs and | ||||||
4 | historical societies in Aurora and the surrounding | ||||||
5 | communities; he was a volunteer tutor at Waubonsee Community | ||||||
6 | College for their ESL program and was a longtime volunteer with | ||||||
7 | the Boy Scouts of America; he was named Grand Marshal for | ||||||
8 | Aurora's Fourth of July parade in 1996; and he was a member of | ||||||
9 | Our Lady of Good Counsel Church; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna, | ||||||
11 | Teofilia, and Mary; and his brothers, Frank and John; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek is survived by his wife, Wanda; | ||||||
13 | his daughter, Annette (Rick) Lawrence; his son, Jack (Donita) | ||||||
14 | Bartoszek; his grandchildren, Sarah and Stephanie Lawrence, | ||||||
15 | and Allen Bartoszek; his sister, Angela Buczkiewicz; his | ||||||
16 | half-brothers, Casmir and Stanley; and his numerous nieces and | ||||||
17 | nephews; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
19 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
20 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bruno | ||||||
21 | Bartoszek; and be it further
