HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Staff
4Sergeant Justus S. Bartelt of Polo, who gave his life defending
5America's freedom on July 16, 2010, in the Helmand province of
6southern Afghanistan; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Justus S. Bartelt was born on July 4, 1983 in
8Dixon, to Steve Bartelt and Jeannie Kyker; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bartelt graduated in 2001 from Polo
10High School and joined the United States Marine Corps in June
11of 2001; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bartelt was deployed to
13Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from March to
14October of 2005 and again from August of 2008 to March of 2009;
15he was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring
16Freedom in February of 2010; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bartelt's awards and decorations
18include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Combat
19Action Ribbon, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Iraq
20Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National
21Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism

1Expeditionary Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service
2Medal; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bartelt will be missed by his
4parents, Steve Bartelt and Jeannie Kyker; his sisters, Shayann,
5Simber, and Kellen; as well as his fellow soldiers and the
6citizens of a grateful nation; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Staff
10Sergeant Justus S. Bartelt; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Justus
12S. Bartelt and his willingness to serve his country, which led
13to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Staff Sergeant Justus S. Bartelt as
16a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
