| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lance | ||||||
| 4 | Corporal Alec E. Catherwood of Byron, who gave his life | ||||||
| 5 | defending America's freedom on October 14, 2010, in the Helmand | ||||||
| 6 | province of southern Afghanistan; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Alec E. Catherwood was born on May 6, 1991 in | ||||||
| 8 | Heilbronn, Germany, to Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood was a member of the | ||||||
| 10 | Future Farmers of America as a sentry, the Boy Scouts, and had | ||||||
| 11 | a black belt in tae kwon do; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood graduated in 2009 from | ||||||
| 13 | Bryon High School and enlisted in the United States Marines | ||||||
| 14 | Corps on June 1, 2009, where he had wanted to serve since he | ||||||
| 15 | was 3 years old; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood was deployed to | ||||||
| 17 | Afghanistan to serve his first combat tour of duty and had | ||||||
| 18 | talked about re-enlisting; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood's awards and | ||||||
| 20 | decorations include the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service | ||||||
| 2 | Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood will be missed by his | ||||||
| 4 | parents, Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood; his sister, Mikaela | ||||||
| 5 | Montgomery; his fiancee, Hailey Patrick, whom he to marry on | ||||||
| 6 | July 2, 2011; as well as his fellow soldiers and the citizens | ||||||
| 7 | of a grateful nation; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 9 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Lance | ||||||
| 11 | Corporal Alec E. Catherwood; and be it further
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Alec | ||||||
| 13 | E. Catherwood and his willingness to serve his country, which | ||||||
| 14 | led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to the family of Lance Corporal Alec E. Catherwood as | ||||||
| 17 | a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
