| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Daisy Brooks of | ||||||
| 4 | North Chicago, for her many achievements in the community; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Daisy M. Brooks received the 2010 Citizens Medal, | ||||||
| 6 | the second-highest civilian honor in the country, from | ||||||
| 7 | President Obama, on August 3, 2010; she is the founder of | ||||||
| 8 | Daisy's Resource and Developmental Center in North Chicago, | ||||||
| 9 | which delivers a variety of educational and social services to | ||||||
| 10 | people who need extra help; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The White House said that Dr. Brooks received the | ||||||
| 12 | Citizens Medal for offering guidance and support to young women | ||||||
| 13 | across Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Brooks is a native of Natchez, Mississippi; in | ||||||
| 15 | 1995 she received a General Contractor's License; she received | ||||||
| 16 | an Honorary Doctorate of Literature in 1998, a Doctorate of | ||||||
| 17 | Laws in 1995, a Doctorate of Humane Letters in 1995, a | ||||||
| 18 | Doctorate of Education in 1994, a Master of Science in | ||||||
| 19 | Community Service in 1986, and a Bachelor of Science in 1984; | ||||||
| 20 | and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, She is a Past and Present member of the American | ||||||

| 1 | Technology Society; a Past Matron of the Emblem Chapter
140 | ||||||
| 2 | O.E.S.; a Past treasurer of the Golden Circle #59; a Shawall | ||||||
| 3 | Court Daughter of Isis Court #4; and a Past President of Rotary | ||||||
| 4 | Anns Harbor Lites Chapter of the Links Inc; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, In addition, she is a Life Member of the NAACP; a | ||||||
| 6 | member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Lambda No Omega | ||||||
| 7 | Chapter; a member of Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church; a | ||||||
| 8 | Board Member of Day Care Crisis Council State of Illinois; the | ||||||
| 9 | Vice President of the Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce, Lake | ||||||
| 10 | County Area; a member of the Vocational Center Advisory | ||||||
| 11 | Committee; and a member of the International Organization of | ||||||
| 12 | Women Executives; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Dr. Brooks has received many honors and accolades, | ||||||
| 14 | including: the Lake County Most Influential African American | ||||||
| 15 | award; the We Do Care Organization award; the YWCA Leadership | ||||||
| 16 | award for Services in Business; the Lake County Urban League | ||||||
| 17 | Black Business Person of the Year; the Illinois Girl Scout | ||||||
| 18 | Council Women of Achievement award; the Christian Fellowship | ||||||
| 19 | Church Humanitarian award; the Top Ladies of Distinction | ||||||
| 20 | Humanitarian award from The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand | ||||||
| 21 | Lodge for Free and Accepted Masons; the State of Illinois | ||||||
| 22 | Citizens of the Year Award; the Paul Harris Fellow Humanitarian | ||||||
| 23 | Award sponsored by Rotary International; and the OMVI Life | ||||||
| 24 | Model Award; therefore, be it

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 2 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 3 | congratulate Dr. Daisy Brooks for her many achievements and | ||||||
| 4 | wish her continued success in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to Dr. Daisy Brooks as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 7 | esteem.
