2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Douglas E. Zemke on |
4 | | the occasion of his retirement as President of Millikin |
5 | | University on December 31, 2010; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Douglas Zemke graduated from Millikin University |
7 | | in 1966; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Douglas Zemke has more than 30 years of business |
9 | | management experience in the telecommunications industry with |
10 | | the former Illinois Bell, AT&T, and Cincinnati Bell; in |
11 | | December of 1997, he retired as senior vice president at |
12 | | Cincinnati Bell Telephone, where he led all activities |
13 | | associated with the restructuring of the business from 1993 to |
14 | | 1995; he was also one of the founding managing members of |
15 | | InDecatur Ventures, LLC, Main Street Bank & Trust (now Busey |
16 | | Bank), and the Tabor School's Center for Entrepreneurship; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Douglas Zemke served as Dean of the Tabor School |
18 | | of Business from January of 1998 to July of 2001; from 1995 to |
19 | | 1998, he served as a member of the Millikin Board of Trustees; |
20 | | and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Douglas Zemke was selected to serve as 13th |

1 | | President of Millikin University by the Millikin University |
2 | | Board of Trustees on July 1, 2003; as president, he focused the |
3 | | University's energies on leadership development, revitalizing |
4 | | the school's curriculum with an emphasis on developing |
5 | | international/global educational opportunities, establishing |
6 | | fiscal responsibility, and building strong ties to Millikin |
7 | | alums and the Decatur community, and provided renewed |
8 | | commitment to Millikin's mission; he was also instrumental in |
9 | | the rejuvenation of the campus through numerous building and |
10 | | streetscape projects, including the completion of ADM-Scovill |
11 | | Hall and the restoration of Albert Taylor Theatre; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Douglas Zemke has been an active member of the |
13 | | Decatur community; he has served on the Decatur Area Labor and |
14 | | Management Committee, the Board of the Community Investment |
15 | | Corporation of Decatur, the Land of Lincoln Credit Union Board |
16 | | of Directors, and the Board of the Lincoln Square Theatre; he |
17 | | is a past chairman of the Macon County American Heart Walk; he |
18 | | is a member of the Decatur Leadership Institute; he is a past |
19 | | chairman of the Board of Directors of The Economic Development |
20 | | Corporation of Decatur and Macon County; he is a past board |
21 | | member of Partners in Education and The Greater Decatur Chamber |
22 | | of Commerce; he is a board member of Hickory Point Bank and |
23 | | Trust; he is a member of The Federation of Independent Illinois |
24 | | Colleges and Universities and the Executive Committee of the |
25 | | Associated Colleges of Illinois; he is also a member of the |

1 | | steering committee for the Decatur Area Education Coalition; |
2 | | and

3 | | WHEREAS, Douglas Zemke serves as a model of hard work, |
4 | | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
5 | | Illinois; therefore, be it
|
6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
7 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
8 | | congratulate Douglas Zemke on the occasion of his retirement |
9 | | and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it |
10 | | further

11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
12 | | presented to Douglas Zemke as a symbol of our esteem and |
13 | | respect.
