2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of State | ||||||
4 | Representative Richard P. Myers of Colchester, who passed away | ||||||
5 | on December 1, 2010; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, He was born to John and Martha Myers on December | ||||||
7 | 27, 1947 in Macomb; he married Christine Sims on August 9, 1975 | ||||||
8 | in North Henderson; he graduated from Colchester High School in | ||||||
9 | 1966 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from Western | ||||||
10 | Illinois University in 1973; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Representative Myers farmed his family farm for 29 | ||||||
12 | years and served 6 years in the United States Army Reserves; he | ||||||
13 | was an active member and elder of the Scotland Trinity | ||||||
14 | Presbyterian Church; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, During his farming career, Representative Myers | ||||||
16 | was active in the Farm Bureau organization, serving in various | ||||||
17 | capacities at the local, State, and national levels; he served | ||||||
18 | 12 years as a member of the board of directors of the Illinois | ||||||
19 | Farm Bureau; during that time he represented the Illinois Farm | ||||||
20 | Bureau on the board of directors of the Interstate Producers | ||||||
21 | Livestock Association, the U.S. Meat Export Federation, and | ||||||
22 | numerous other agricultural organizations; and

1 | WHEREAS, Representative Myers served several years as | ||||||
2 | minority spokesperson of the Appropriations-Higher Education | ||||||
3 | Committee and was a strong advocate for increased funding for | ||||||
4 | the State's public colleges and universities, as well as for | ||||||
5 | the State's community college system; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Representative Myers served on the Agriculture | ||||||
7 | and Conservation, Higher Education, State Government | ||||||
8 | Administration, Elections and Campaign Reform, and Renewable | ||||||
9 | Energy Committees; he served as a member of the Passenger Rail | ||||||
10 | Caucus, a group of legislators advocating for continued and | ||||||
11 | expanded Amtrak service throughout the State; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Representative Myers was co-chair of the | ||||||
13 | Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability, a | ||||||
14 | bi-partisan legislative commission of members from both | ||||||
15 | chambers; their responsibilities include forecasting State | ||||||
16 | revenue projections, oversight of employee insurance programs, | ||||||
17 | and conducting hearings on the proposed closure of State | ||||||
18 | facilities; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Beyond the State of Illinois, Representative | ||||||
20 | Myers served as co-chair of the Agriculture and Natural | ||||||
21 | Resources Committee of the Midwest Legislative Conference of | ||||||
22 | the Council of State Governments; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Representative Myers was preceded in death by his | ||||||
2 | son, Nicholas; his father, John; and his brother, Wendell, who | ||||||
3 | died in infancy; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Representative Myers is survived by his wife, | ||||||
5 | Chris; his daughter, Alison; his mother, Martha; his brothers, | ||||||
6 | Donald (Sue) Myers and Charles (Ann) Myers; and numerous nieces | ||||||
7 | and nephews; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Representative Myers will be remembered as a | ||||||
9 | thoughtful and hardworking legislator who always put his family | ||||||
10 | and constituents first; therefore, be it | ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
12 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
13 | mourn, along with his family, friends, and constituents, the | ||||||
14 | passing of State Representative Richard Myers; and be it | ||||||
15 | further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of State Representative Richard Myers | ||||||
18 | as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
