| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ernest R. Slavik |
| 4 | | III on the occasion of earning the Silver Star for his actions |
| 5 | | during the Vietnam War; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Slavik III was born on March 24, 1946, in |
| 7 | | Elmhurst; he was raised in Villa Park and spent 4 years at |
| 8 | | Willowbrook High School; after high school, he worked for the |
| 9 | | ADT Burglar Alarm Company; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, In May of 1966, Ernie Slavik III was drafted to |
| 11 | | serve in the United States Army; after training at Fort Riley, |
| 12 | | Kansas for a year, he was sent to the Mekong Delta in Vietnam |
| 13 | | with the 4th Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment of the 9th |
| 14 | | Infantry Division; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Slavik III was honored multiple times for |
| 16 | | valor during the year he spent in Vietnam; on July 11, 1967, he |
| 17 | | took out 2 enemy bunkers and several insurgents during a |
| 18 | | firefight in which he fought in the open under heavy enemy |
| 19 | | fire; he was credited with turning the tide of the battle and |
| 20 | | was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his |
| 21 | | actions on that day; on June 19, 1967, he dragged 7 wounded |
| 22 | | soldiers from a bloody battlefield to a successful medical |

| 1 | | evacuation; after several decades, he was given a second Silver |
| 2 | | Star for his exceptionally valorous actions; after returning |
| 3 | | home in January of 1968, he finished his stint in the military |
| 4 | | at Fort Meade, Maryland, where he trained soldiers and led |
| 5 | | details; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Following his service in the Army, Ernie Slavik |
| 7 | | III became involved in lithography in 1968; he worked at |
| 8 | | numerous shops until his retirement in 2005; he served as a |
| 9 | | foreman at those places for 32 years; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Slavik III has lived on Channel Lake in |
| 11 | | Antioch for 37 years; he enjoys spending time with his family, |
| 12 | | fishing, hunting, and working on his 31-acre hunting property |
| 13 | | in southern Illinois; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Slavik's family, which includes his wife, |
| 15 | | Patricia, his children, Melissa, Kelly, and Ernest IV, and his |
| 16 | | grandchildren, Brook, Breanna, Jordan, Natilie, Lily, Fisher, |
| 17 | | and Ernest V, are all undoubtedly proud of Mr. Slavik and his |
| 18 | | accomplishments; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Slavik III serves as a model of hard work, |
| 20 | | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of |
| 21 | | Illinois; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 2 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 3 | | congratulate Ernest R. Slavik III on the occasion of earning |
| 4 | | the Silver Star and wish him continued success and happiness in |
| 5 | | the future; and be it further

| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
