HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate John P. Meschi of 
4Lombard on the occasion of being named the December 2010 
5Illinois Veteran of the Month by the Illinois Department of 
6Veterans Affairs; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Illinois Veteran of the Month award is given 
8by the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs to veterans who 
9contribute to the betterment of communities throughout the 
10State of Illinois; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, John Meschi served in the United States Marine 
12Corps for 6 years; during his service, he served as a military 
13policeman in the Philippines; he then served in Cuba during the 
14Cuban Missile Crisis; he subsequently served in an infantry 
15company at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, followed by a return 
16to Cuba; toward the end of his tour, he served with an 
17artillery unit as a driver; he then spent the last few months 
18of service back at Camp Lejeune, where he served as a vehicle 
19instructor; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, John Meschi has been a member of the Marine Corps 
21League for 24 years; he has served as Chairman of the group's 
22Fundraising committee and is instrumental in the execution of

1the League's many fundraising efforts; he also serves as the 
2Veterans' Assistance Officer for his detachment and helps to 
3organize many of the organization's charity events, such as 
4monthly parties at the Hines V.A. Hospital and DuPage County 
5Convalescent Center, Eagle Scout ceremonies, and food delivery 
6programs; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, John Meschi served as Chairman of the Marine Corps 
8League's Toys-for-Tots committee for 12 years; during that 
9time, annual toy collections rose from 3,000 to a high of 
10100,000; he also spoke at numerous gatherings of donators and 
11arranged numerous appearances of Reserve Marines for the 
12program; he is also involved with the Sharing Connection, a 
13local charity group that distributes toys in the Chicago area; 
14and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, John Meschi was designated Marine of the Year by 
16the Marine Corps League in 1996 and 2001; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John Meschi serves as a model of hard work, 
18integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
19Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
21NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
22congratulate John P. Meschi on the occasion of being named the

1December 2010 Illinois Veteran of the Month and wish him 
2continued success and happiness in the future; and be it

4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
