Appropriates $2,600,000 from the General Revenue Fund to the Department of Public Health for grants to the Metropolitan Chicago Hospital Council for support of the Illinois Poison Center. Effective July 1, 2009.

AN ACT concerning appropriations.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The amount of $2,600,000, or so much of that amount as may be necessary, is appropriated from the General Revenue Fund to the Department of Public Health for grants to the Metropolitan Chicago Hospital Council for support of the Illinois Poison Center. The purpose of this funding is to support the State of Illinois’ poison control system, which is administered by the Illinois Poison Center. The Illinois Poison Center provides vital poison control, treatment, and education services through the State, free of charge, on an around-the-clock basis. Through its operations and the services it provides, the Illinois Poison Center saved State taxpayers approximately $28 million in 2007 alone.
Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1, 2009.
