Amends the Election Code. Provides that nothing in the Code prohibits an otherwise qualified primary elector from becoming the candidate of a different established political party. Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning elections.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section |
5 |
| 7-43 as follows:
|

| (10 ILCS 5/7-43) (from Ch. 46, par. 7-43)
|
7 |
| Sec. 7-43. Every person having resided in this State 6 |
8 |
| months and
in the precinct 30 days next preceding any primary |
9 |
| therein who shall be
a citizen of the United States of the age |
10 |
| of 18 or more
years, shall be
entitled to vote at such primary.
|

| The following regulations shall be applicable to |
12 |
| primaries:
|

| No person shall be entitled to vote at a primary:
|

| (a) Unless he declares his party affiliations as required |
15 |
| by this
Article.
|

| (c.5) If that person has participated in the town political |

| party caucus,
under Section 45-50 of the Township Code, of |
20 |
| another political party by
signing an affidavit of voters |

| attending the caucus within 45 days before the

| calendar month in which the primary is held.
